Default Smith 627 PRO series 4in.

Any thoughts on this gun. I had a 629 Classic years ago and I remember it fit my hand better than the 686. Any thoughts, or info on this model?

I have one with Hogue stocks and a micro dot. It is a really fun range toy for shooting steel. I really like mine and the trigger is really smooth for a factory gun.

I am very happy with mine. It is very accurate and smooth. I think the matte stainless finish is beautiful though the little carbon spots that spill over the front of the cylinder to the sides are impossible to remove. I have just learned to live with it because if I tried to remove those carbon stains more aggressively than I would spoil the matte finish. They're not so bad really.

The Hogue grips it came with didn't seem to fit my hand so I went to Pachmayr Presentations. These were a little big for me, I have been told they discontinued the small Presentations. So I changed again to Pachmayr Decelerators which seem to fit me a little bit better. I still would like to find a rubber grip that allows my index finger to get a little further on the trigger.

I use 5 Star brand speedloaders and am very satisfied with those.

Yeah, I really dislike the finish on the revolver for this exact reason. I bought a 625 on the cheap with the same finish due to the "stains." Just buy a lead away cloth, it removes the stains very easily and does not alter the finish! Stay away from any polishes like Flitz or Mothers.

Though I can take or leave the slab sided barrel, I do really like 627 Pro. The trigger is very nice, and it seems shorter because the cylinder doesn't rotate quite as far. The eight shot 357s are 33% more fun than standard revolvers!

My fingers are just a little too short to get a proper double action trigger pull with N frames that have covered back straps. Fortunately, 357 magnum isn't too ferocious in an N frame gun, so I have wood stocks on it now. They look better, anyways.

Got one last week, very nice I love it. I put about 200 rounds through it Saturday with no issue 100 magnum 100 .38 special.

I cleaned it yesterday use a microfiber and solvent to get most of the dirt off, used a lead away cloth to get the rest off and it looks like (better) than it came out of the box since it had been test fired by the factory.

The blackening of the outside of the cylinders came off fairly easy with the lead away cloth and didn't "polish" the matte finish.

The trigger is amazing in single action. All those performance center parts pays off in this gun. I watched a video on YouTube showing how they make the pro series. Basically it's all the same parts that the performance center hand tunes get sent to the normal production line to get assembled, then it goes back to the performance center for a final QC inspection and test fired... So it's basically a performance center gun just instead of being assembled by the performance center guys it gets assembled on the regular assy line.

TI am enjoying mine and it has become the piece that goes with me no matter what else I take along. I do have few comments though. I have a number of Smiths including some 5 screws and the 627 Pro has a very smooth DA right out of the box. It does seem like a shorter length of pull. SA trigger is great also. Accuracy is better than I can shoot, clay pidgeons at 100 yards about 2 out of 8 rounds. Interestingly, I shoot 14 1/2 gr of 2400 w/ 158 gr lswc in my 2 Mod 19s but this gives sticky cases in the 627 (?) so I load 14gr for it. I also have had to use a firmer crimp than before or else the last two bullets per cylinder will jump the crimp. The IL has not caused a problem after about 1000 rounds but I wish it were not there just the same. The gun makes an amusing "CLUCK" sound when you close the cylinder unlike my blue steel guns. The cylinder is actually slightly smaller diameter than my mod 29-2. An 8 round 357 with a full cylinder and 3 loaded moon clips for reload is a bunch of firepower. Overall, I like it a lot.

Been carrying one on my hip for over a year now. I changed the Hogue grips to s&w round to square wood presentation grips. The gun fits my big hands about perfectly. I only have shot magnum loads out of it and that big N frame absorbs recoil quite nicely. I must say I get a kick out of being the Old School wheel gun cop, people actually stop me on the street to comment. Anyway I was always a revolver guy and love shooting it, reloads with the moonclips are as fast as 99% of the autoloader guys I work with. Very nicely made gun, I too wasn't a fan of the slab sided barrel but it's grown on me

I have one and absolutely love it. Shoots like a dream, accurate, and of course 8 rounds of 357. Great range gun, and makes a great outdoors companion as well!

As to the carbon on the cylinder others have mentioned, I agree it can be difficult to remove. I just shoot mine and leave the carbon there, I think it looks kind of neat when its dirty, looks like I shoot it a lot... which I do. A lot.
