Default 617 trigger movement side to side

Hello, out of the three different 617's I handled, I noticed that one had a very noticeable amount of trigger movement side to side when the action was not "cocked". The trigger could be shifted side to side about 1/16". Is this ok or something that would indicate previous owner tinkering? The three 617's were all "used" no dash models from the late 80's to early 90's era. Please elaborate if you have experienced or know what could cause this.

Thanks

Hello - should not have any movement, or very little. I checked mine and they are tight.
It was probably due to home gunsmithing. You cannot beleve what is done to some of these revolvers.

Thanks cobra44, I just bought the book... S&W Revolver A Shop Manual Book by Jerry Kuhnhausen. I hope I will find the answer to my question there.
BTW you did check for side to side play with the action un-cocked?

You will need to buy some shims, probably. See TriggerShims Brand Shim Kits
