WTK- Gunsmith for S&W Model 66 ??
Hi All,
I have a well worn Model 66 No Dash, carried a lot, shot very little that I want to send to a gunsmith to tune up and make into a custom gun for me. I am a purist by nature, have several unfired M66's that I would never mess with! Looking to have the gun refinished, action job, cylinders chamfered, maybe night sites? The gun is going to be used for carry in the Fall and Winter in the Pacific NW and as another "house gun" the rest of the time. Who would you use as a gunsmith to get this work done?
Thanks and appreciate the info,
W

Personally I like Clark's revolver work
But Bill at C&S is superb as is Ron Power or Bill Davis

How about the experts? The S&W Performance Shop.
Price-wise and delivery time will be at least competitive and possibly better at S&W.
Another top custom shop is Frank Glenn in Arizona.

There are a bunch of great pistolsmiths out there. My choice for S&W custom work is Alan Tanaka of A.T. Custom in Gardena, California. Alan has built all of my PPC guns and I have never had better practical trigger jobs than he has done on my carry revolvers.
Regards.
Bob

The 686 no dash I inherited from my dad was worked on by Frank Glenn-or at least his shop, don't know if he did the work himself or had help, it was in 1982 or '83. Bead blast, action job, trigger face polish. It's held up beautifully all these years, everyone I let shoot it can't get over the action, still sees regular range use & up until I picked up a 4" 629-1 it went with me everytime I ventured into the mountains. I know that was a long time ago but that's my experience.
I also know a couple of guys that revolvers & 1911s worked over by Karl Sokol, Chestnut Mountain Sports. Outstanding work on the two 3" 65s they sent him.

I have a group of high quality gunsmiths I use on the exceedingly rare occasion that I need S&W revolver work. They have better turn around than most, and they are less expensive than all of the others. They do exceedingly high quality work. In fact, it could be argued that no other gunsmiths in the world know the S&W as well as they do. They are located at 2100 Roosevelt Avenue, Springfield, MA. Ask for their "duty action."
