Default Finish on an R8

I've been looking to get a Performance Center gun and have it narrowed to a 627 or the R8. Would like one of each eventually so availability will probably drive the purchase.

Regarding the R8, I know the frame is scandian or whatever. My question is the finish on the cylinder. Even new guns seem to show a pretty heavy turn line on the cylinder. The cylinder is steel, correct? What is the finish on the cylinder and is it "weak" finish? Is that why even new guns show a turn line?

Thank you.

I just bought a used one from 2007 and there isn't too much of a turn line. You are dealing with a few different medals so the finish is slightly different. The frame is aluminum with scandium mixed in, the cylinder is stainless steel, and I don't know what the barrel shroud is. It is a great gun with an interesting balance over the 627. I have a 627 as well and am more used to shooting it. You can't go wrong with either.

Finish on an R8-dsc_0199-jpg

I spray mine down with brake cleaner after every match. The finish has not worn off yet after two years.

I have not seen an issue with either of my 2 scandium revolvers. The cylinder is stainless steel and I agree with the person who posted about the color being slightly different. Seems the coating used is very durable and easy to clean with a simple wipe off using a rag and WD40. For little wear marks I uses a black sharpie pen to touch up the black as needed. Cylinder turn line is no different than what I have seen on my Model 29 or other evolved so own.

The R8 will cost you a bit more that the 627 if I remember correctly. Bud payed around $760 for his and a new R8 will run you about $1,100. Of coursed used examples are less.
