Default Trigger pull on 686??? Factory vs. Custom

I am looking at purchasing a 686 8 3/8" that had a gunsmith change the factory trigger pull from what ever (maybe original 4.5 pounds double action) to about 3.25 and the Single action is set now at 1.5 pounds. This was done so as not to "pull" the gun off of target at the range or hunting. The gun has a few custom features from the factory, such as factory cutting to accommodate scope rings. My anxiety increased after I learned of the procedure, but the seller, who seems honest, assures that the gun is safe. What do you all think??? Thanks for your feedback.

I think your double action weights are off. Way off.

The factory double action is probably in the neighborhood of 12-15 pounds.

A highly modified gun, with slick action, bobbed hammers, and firing off perfectly seated federal primers are capable of 4.5lb - 5lb double action.

Unless you are confusing single action with double action, regardless - if it's been worked on , only the reputation of quality of work by the gunsmith can say if it's worth it or not.

I can't quite picture what you've got, but if the S&W factory did the work I'd call it safe.

I have the 686-6 3" and that DA was so hard to pull,it was ridiculous. I ordered a Wolff spring kit reduced power and had a Gunsmith do it for me in 20 minutes. I haven't measured the pull but it is as smooth as butter. I love it.
