Default Swapping parts to convert 686 (6 shot) to Plus (7 shot)

I would think this has been addressed before but if so I can't find the thread: I have two 686's, a no-dash six shot, and a -8 Plus model. The earlier one had a very nice trigger job and has those great target stocks, so the thought occurred to me to change the six-shot to a seven-shot (and vice versa). The frame and cylinder diameter measurements are identical as far as I can tell. Has anyone actually attempted this? Can it be done by swapping the cylinder and the hand? Do you even need to change the hand? Thanks, Z

I should add I did find this thread: What is needed to convert 686 to 7 shot
but it doesn't look like these guys actually did the conversion. I don't mean to be disrespectful -- they do sound like they know what they are talking about -- but if someone has actually done it, I'd like to know what they needed to do to make it work properly. Thanks, Z
