John Jovino 60 all in one post
I searched and brought together all the information of previous post plus what I found recent to inform interested parties of this little gem.
* Non-cataloged S&W
* Advertised in ShotGun News (see image)
* Distributed by John Jovino Co (5 Centre Market Place, New York NY 10013 212-925-4881)
* It is assumed that a total combined production of 2" and 3" is 1000 (see image).
* Known models to exist 60 no dash and 60-1 (all square butt)
* PC for the 2" PC-102303 Spec Ord - 4081
* PC for the 3" PC-102304 Spec Ord - 4306
* Recent auction SOLD price as of Dec 08 2013 for four different specimens all 3" ($535 to $729)
* Serial number beginning in AE****
Another member pointed out the following:
FYI, "Spec Ord" is the date of manufacture of the firearm in the box. It has nothing to do with the model or run of firearms. The exception to this rule is if the label says SPECIAL under features, then it is not the date but a reference number. Your two dates decode to March 21st 1984 for the 2" and November 1st 1984 for the 3"

Thank you for pulling this information together and sharing it with us.
I am a great fan of 3" square butt J-frames and love my Jovino special Model 60 examples . . . they don't get any better.
Like your 3", my AEVxxxx shipped in November 1984.

I have this model 60 no dash square butt.. Barrel measures 2" with a AEC540x serial number.. S&W dates it to 1984.. Is this gun part of this John Jovino special order?

Yes, this is one of the Jovino run, as it is the only SB model 60 produced. The 2" were reportedly less common than the 3". Enjoy!

Very likely, especially if it has a square butt frame and fixed sights as in the above photos.

Yes it does thank you Alan. When purchased all I knew was an unfired 60 3 inch,then doing research stumbled upon the Jovino threads. Further searching I found the Jovino shop purchased by the Impirato family of Henry fame. Thanks again

I just purchased a Jovino 3" Md 60 from a retired Smith & Wesson manager. I believe is a complete package. I have all the shipping papers along with the box papers and tools. It has a pair of smooth presentation stocks. He told me it is exactly as he bought it. I'll post pictures later.

Nice gun and an interesting set of stocks, unlike any J frame Targets I've seen before. The cobbler's kid got the best shoes?

Nice. That S&W packing list is interesting. When I worked for Quaker Oats all I ever got was half-price Cap'n Crunch.

I have the following four SB M60 Jovino Specials in my s/n collection (the first one is lot-45's from the OP):
AEU81XX
Nov 1, 1984 (M60 3") pc: 102304, so: 4305
AEC539X
Mar 21, 1984 (M60 2") pc: 102303, so: 4081
AEV631X
Sept 8, 1984 (M60 3") pc: 102304, so: 4251
AEV632X
Sept 24, 1984 (M60 3") pc: 102304, so: 4267
AEV632X had a Heavy Barrel (HB) and smooth Magna Stocks. Did all the 3-inchers have a HB?

I can't find any information on the special order. I've been told they sold 1500 and 5000. Did you get a factory letter with any of yours?
Don

Don;
I have a factory letter that states the 2" SB model 60s were from June 1984 (no number or other details given), and in a second sentence the 1000 3" SB model 60s from November 1984 went to Jovino. It implies the 2" also went to Jovino but does not state that.

The factory letter pictured in the original post by Lot 45 indicates a 2" square butt was shipped to Jovino . . . and also quotes the 1000 total number in the order. It is my understanding that the total special order for square butt Model 60s was for 1000 units, the "majority" of which were 3".

Don, these aren't guns I own. They're guns and boxes I've seen and written down the info. The special order number is S&W code for the Julian date. The first number represents the year (198 4), the last three being the day of the year. Sometimes the SO# represents something else, but in this case I'm pretty sure it's a date. BTW, all those guns were square butts.
