help with dating 586 no dash
AJB5042 also Smith and Wesson on barrel is gold...did some come that way....no more gold just the name

I'm guessing 1985. Prefix isn't listed in SCSW, but the closest preceding that was 1985 and the first engineering change (-1) came in 1986.
NOTE: Prefixes and engineering changes are not always in sequence.
I doubt that the gold was OE - most likely a creative previous owner with some gold paint or nail polish.
