Default Brand new PC 637 with issues

I broke down and bought a Wyatt Deep Cover PC 637-2 today. Got it home and realized the cylinder release screw was loose so I went to tighten it up and it just spins. It's catching a little but still not secured properly which I confirmed from dry firing and it fell off. Luckily I found the screw and latch but needless to say I'm pissed a brand new PC revolver has this issue.

I know how to work on S&W revolvers and know what it would take to fix this issue. I've also dealt with S&W a few times in the past. Before I call them tomorrow I was wondering if they would send me the parts I need or insist on me sending it in? It ticks me off to have to send it in considering the holidays and inventory time at the first of year cause then it will take even longer.

I need some other parts anyway. Can you order parts from S&W or do I have to go through another route? I checked Brownell's and they don't have everything I need anyway. I'd like to get everything I need from one source if possible.

Call 'em and see. From your description, it's either a stripped screw or stripped bolt; both are small, easily replaced parts. Good chance S&W will ship them out gratis after you explain the situation, but how long it will take is unclear -- S&W has a serious backlog right now. Same with ordering from them.

If Brownells doesn't have everything you need, try Midway or Numrich. This is cheap and easy enough that I wouldn't waste too much time making it a warranty issue.

Looks like Brownells has stock of the bolt as their part number: 940-226-880WB Bolt Mfr Part: 226880000 for about $24 plus shipping

But not the Thumbpiece Nut, Glass Beaded their number: 940-000-265WS Mfr Part: 079220000

Midway doesn't appear to have either in stock.

Those are the only places I have purchased parts from, so I am not much help. Sorry!

From what I hear, it may be faster and cheaper to return the gun prepaid under warranty than to just order parts. Turn around on warranty guns has been quite quick lately as S&W makes them their priority. To me, free beats the 'ell outta $24.

A gun with this issue should never have been shipped! Shame on S&W, the PC and yes, Wyatt, too! There, I said it. I feel better now. Send it back.

This is it. The factory should fix it and cover all costs too. This revolver should have never made it past "quality control."

Thanks guys for the info. I had checked Numrich and Midway after posting last night. The only parts it could possibly be are the screw or bolt. I called Smith this morning, the guy was real nice and helpful. He said he's shipping me a new screw out ASAP, which I hope doesn't take 5 months like the grips I read in another post.

I swapped the screws between the 637 and my 642 and they both worked just fine, weird. So that perplexes me as to wether it's the screw or the bolt now. At least its functional now till the replacement gets here.

Thanks again guys.

Sounds to me like your gun is fixed, and what you have on the way is a spare "screw". As you no doubt noticed, that's not a screw, it's a cap-nut -- which S&W refers to as a "thumb piece nut".
