The only problem that I am aware of is S&W only produced 1500 of them. The main differences between 1988 & 1989 are the front sights and the markings. The model of 1988 has a ramp front sight and rolled markings. The model of 1989 has a patridge front sight and laser markings. Here is picture of my Model of 1988.
I have heard that the only ones that had "issues" were the -2 version. Something about the cylinder throats. But I have never owned a -2; I have three that are -4. A -3 or -4 should be a slam dunk revolver as close to perfection as a .45 ACP revolver can possibly be.
