Default M&P R8 Strength?

I apologize if this subject has been brought up in the past. I tried to search the forum, but didn't find anything.

Does anyone know if the M&P R8 is built strong enough to shoot 357s routinely (a lot)? I know my 686 is strong enough to handle them, but wondering about a gun not made completely of steel. I appreciate any thoughts or opinions.

Thats all I shoot out of mine no problems so far and i don't expect any. I shoot my hand loads and they are middle of the road not super hot. Gun handles them well and could shoot them all day long in that gun. The gun is covered by warranty if there is a problem.

Understood. Thanks for the reply. I was wondering if this gun might be like the m66, which (from what I read) can shoot 357s, but maybe not a lot of them. I am considering replacing my 686SSR with the R8. I enjoy shooting 357s and don't want to be restricted by a concern for the gun's construction.

If you don't mind answering a couple other questions about the R8...

Do you have to use moon clips?

Have you mounted anything on the rail in front? I would think doing so would make the gun feel nose heavy....

Thanks again.

N frames will not have the same problem as the older model 66's had, as there is plenty of metal around the forcing cone. The cases will headspace on the outer rim of the cylinder and will work fine without moon clips. I don't have an R8, but I have three 627 8 shot guns and find moon clips to be a pain when standard range shooting, so don't use them. They are darn handy if using the gun for defense purposes, or competition.

I like the moonclips but you don't have to use them. Never mounted anything on the rail. I like the R8 so well I bought a TRR8 as well . They seem to balance great and point naturally for me. I have started to move my collection towards the 8 shooters sold off some that I didn't shoot and now have four 8 shooters.
