Default Ordered an M&P 340

So, I was debating back and forth between an LCR357 and an M&P340. I'd shot the LCR357 quite a bit, but never shot the M&P. I saw the M&P become available so I took a chance and placed an order for one.

I'm curious what other owners carry in the 340 and what some good holster options are for it. Hopefully even if I regret getting it after firing 357, I think I'd still be happy with it as a 38+p at 13 oz.

IMO, prolly the most unpleasant handgun (recoil wise when using full house loads) I've shot. But I still like 'em.
Although Ruger is fine, I'd went with the S&W too.

Do they make any other grips that might make it just a bit more enjoyable at the range?

Grips make it tolerable but if you're like a lot of 340 owners I've known, get some .38's.
But at least try it with some mags if you've never done it.

Can anyone recommend a simple IWB holster from amazon until I can place orders with some of the others that take 10+ weeks?

Mika pocket holster #1, IWB is gonna have to be kydex if you want to reholster. Galco is acceptable option for medium cost.

Thanks, I plan to order one of the Mika holsters. I ordered a cheap leather option on amazon to get me through IWB until I can figure out how I want to carry. Not having much luck finding any 357 at the moment other than buffalo bore 158gr. I want to try 357 in it when it arrives, but I think I want to find something a bit softer in 357 for the first time out. I've already got a bunch of 38 and some 38+P Corbon DPX.

How does this gun handle reloads? I thought I saw something on the forum about the 340 and lead reloads (maybe it was the 340PD).

M&P 340 might be the pinnacle (IMHO) of the J frame centennial design. The only that that might make it slightly better (and this is just a personal preference of mine) is if it came in a silver/stainless tone finish. I likes my revolvers shiny!

Test ammo in it.

158gr Federal and Magtech would crimp-jump on me, and lock the cylinder.

Didn't have that problem with Gold Dot, Winch Silvertip, or Rem JHP - all of which were lower grainweight

I have had one since they came out. Great carry snub. XS night sights are great.
Mika Roundcut for the pocket.
Crimson Trace 305 or 405. I prefer the 405 for pocket carry. They do a good job in assisting with recoil mitigation.
I standardized on Speer Gold Dots for short barrel. 135 grain plus P.
You know you will have to try some .357. ; - )

Ha, yes. Didn't seem like too bad of a price.

I was just debating ordering the LG-405. I saw a few people mentioning that they are a bit easier on the hand for recoil as well compared to the stock grips. I assume you are saying the 305 over the 405 for pocket carry only because of the recoil and not anything to do with the actual ease of pocket carrying?

Thought so, I had it in my cart for a little while before I decided I didn't need one right now... it was a good price though, you're welcome!

The LG-405 is the better choice for a carry J frame, the LG-305 is too large IMO.

I got the notification earlier in the day and went back and forth myself before finally committing and purchasing it. I'm glad it was still available when I finally made the decision. Hopefully I'll have it in hand and to the range by early next week.

Yes, the smaller set of the two for pocket carry. I bought them factory supplied because I wanted the S&W logo.
