Its a 637 Wyatt Deep Cover. It began as a package that the Wyatt's at Gunsmoke in Colorado did to basic model 637s which consisted of action jobs and bobbing the hammers. Smith & Wesson decided to do the same upgrades in house at the PC shop and attach the Gunsmoke and Wyatt name to them.

Bought one earlier this week brand new for $400, couldn't pass it up even though Im not crazy about the logo. Haven't shot it yet but the trigger action is very smooth, the clip grip isn't horrible but not as comfortable in the hand as a softer rubber grip. Looks like Buds has them for $450 right now.

Rich Wyatt brought that concept gun to S&W and, obviously, they liked it enough to do it even AFTER his TV show was cancelled. I think it's pretty cool, actually, although I'm not a fan of the grips. There are a number of threads already on this gun - you can search for them.

I must be living in the wrong part of the country: everybody seems to be paying $500 or less for 637 Wyatts. Talking $550 - $569 in Vegas. I own 2 of these wonderful little guns and ignore the logos, just as I ignore the logo on my M60 Ladysmith.
It took me a while to accustom myself to the less powerful trigger rebound spring, which originally felt weak. My gunsmith advised me not to replace it since the PC designed the gun that way. Like some posters before me, I'm not a fan of the 'clip grip', and have replaced it on one with 'peanut grip' Magnas. The other makes for a great toss-in-the-waistband-and-go-to-the-mailbox gun. It's not secure enough for 24/7 carry IMO.

I have one and love it. As others have said, change the grips. I have Pachmayr compacts on mine.

I have to ask:
What does this mean -

If it's okay to stick in your waistband to walk outside, what is it NOT okay for in your opinion?

As long as we're on this subject again - I have to ask another question - because I almost bought one of these Wyatt Deep Cover/Gunsmoke guns today:
I carry a 642 every day, almost 365 days a year. When I can, of course.
My question is, I have a 642, I have a 649, I have Model 32, also - what do I need a Gunsmoke J-frame for? Okay, "need" is not quite the correct term - why would I want one, what does it add to the battery?

ISCS Yoda
Hi Yoda, thanks for your question. Going to the mailbox and returning home takes perhaps 10 minutes, maybe 15. I can trust placing the Wyatt with clip grip into my waistband and feel it will be secure for that period of time.
I would NOT feel so secure carrying the gun in that manner for an entire day outside the home. Just the nature of the clip grip which I never liked when made by Barami in the 70s and 80s. Also, without an IWB holster, the gun is frankly uncomfortable.
As to your question directed at the 2d poster about what need the Wyatt fills if one has other J-frames, I don't buy guns on the basis of need. Perhaps he does not either.
Have a nice day.

I when on line and read about the gun store and TV show -Gun smoke. Discovery channel stopped that show due to tax evasion. You will not see any more of these guns made with -Gun smoke on the barrel ..?? The price on these guns were $670 and now under $500.

IMHO the only fresh "concept" Wyatt took to S&W was putting his reality-show logos on the gun. Tuned-up, bobbed Chief Specials have been providing yeoman service as concealed-carry and back-up guns for over 50 years. I've handled a "Wyatt" 637PC and other than the BS artwork I like it, but let's not give credit where none is due.
I know just what kaaskop us getting at. I would feel comfortable just sticking a gun in my waistband (clip grip or not) for a short walk down to the mailbox, but I don't feel that it is secure enough for full-time carry. I've had trouble with guns squeezing up out of my waistband when carried holsterless, and I don't think the clip-grip (or similar) would help that much.
And Yoda, a 637 would probably not give you anything that you don't already have in your 642 & 649...except another little j-frame. You can't ever have too many of those (currently I have six).

A NIB Gunsmoke sold last night on GB for $425 plus $35 shipping. Would have sold for less but I bid a couple of times right at the end. I have one so didn't want another unless I got it at a great price......but still $460 + FFL transfer fee (mine is $10) is still cheaper than I bought my first one for when they first came out. There are a lot of them for sale on Gunbroker from reputable dealers at a good price. And then there are still those dealers which are charging retail or worse.

So true. My LGS wanted $550.00 It's a $500 gun. That's what our LGS should be selling them. I went today and put that $500 i gave him for Gun Smoke for The SW 357 PC 2in. gun.
I just have $200 more to pay him off.

For all of you with the gun that have ditched the clip grips let me know. I would be interested in taking them off your hands.

Gunsmoke 637 vs. Pro series 627
I was shooting the gunsmoke 637 and the pro series 627 at the range yesterday. Both are fine shooting guns. There were however misfires with the 627 on winchester winclean 38 special ammo. I reloaded the 2 shells in the 627 twice but was without success. Just for the he** of it, I loaded the shells in the 637 and received satisfying bangs from each shell on the first attempt. I was a bit puzzled but the 627 does feel like it has a lighter trigger. Any thoughts?
