New 2014 Models Announced
2014 Models via Julie Golob posting the release on her blog.
http://www.juliegolob.com/new-smith-...d-self-defense
They are on their website as well, hope not a dupe.

It is, unfortunately, not a "dupe." Not one of these revolvers has anything to do with my interests in shooting. I suppose there will be a large number who will want to disagree, but I imagine a lesser number will actually lay down the bills for these competition oriented guns.
While I have no problem with all sorts of angles on the sport of shooting, my preference is for the bread and butter products related to self-defense, especially when the demand is so high and S&W cannot apparently meet demands for those products. J frames, K frames and other popular models have simply been unavailable all during 2013, and it is looking like that will be the case again in 2014.

New Models
I know some have different feelings but i think there are 2 or 3 new models that look real sweet. I have been emailing them for years to bring us their bread and butter 686 in a PC worked over carry package and they did it in the PC 686.
I will be ordering one tomorrow.

I can understand where you're coming from, but these all look like Performance Center guns, so I don't think they are directed towards the same market or coming from the same assembly line. The 686 interests me... too bad it is a 2 1/2" instead of a 3" barrel.
What I would love to see the the PC start making semi-custom guns like they did in the 30s with the Registered Magnums. You could select the options you want and have the PC build it for you. Select barrel length, sights, stocks, moon clips, trigger type, etc... They wouldn't be RMs, and it would be a mistake to call them that. There is no way they could recreate the fit and finish of the old time craftsmen, and purists would be annoyed at trying reissue RMs.

I must have missed that in the press release. A K frame in .357 Magnum?

I don't see any new classics yet so I will continue to hope for a 4", tapered barrel, target sighted .45 ACP.

Count me in for a model 66. Before or after my 500 I haven't decided yet.

I like the 686 and if the 66 really is coming back that would be sweet too. It would be even sweeter if they offered a 2.5" as well. I like the 9mm revolvers also. The 460 looks awesome also. I need to hit the lottery.

That model 69 does look sweet.
I wonder if all our grousing for a new 696 had any effect?

I'm digging the 686 and the 66. I hope they stick around long enough for me to get the coins saved up.

Not the actual retail price but I called my dealer and told them to place an order for 1 for me. Their normal pricing is a healthy bit under MSRP on everything so I'm not too worried about that silly number up on the top of the page.

I can't find the spec. on the two 9 mm rev. I was told that a .355 would be a better gun then a 357-9 mm. When i go tomorrow i will find out. You ordered the 460 ? NICE !!
I always wanted a 460 but the price of that ammo is nuts. I'm sure you reload. After what happen to me with my 357 rev. [blow up in my hand] not for me ....

I've already got the 10.5" PC and was planning on getting the 5" but this will work out even better along side the longer one. Shooting the 200gr Hornady FTX is pretty reasonable on both the wallet and the wrist.
I'm crossing my fingers that S&W decides to bring out a similar PC shorty in .500 next year.

I give the factory credit for listening to their customers and bringing out new products.
Two pluses - the 66 and 69 in 4.25" barrels, so our Canadian friends can enjoy them, and the relocation of "Smith & Wesson" to the left side of the barrel. Seeing that on the right side bugs me, for no explainable reason. A possible minus - forcing cone issues on both the above; perhaps the two-piece barrel addressed this.

If so, the didn't listen well enough. I like the Model 69 concept, but a 3"BBL would have been more to my liking.

Agree with the forcing cone issue on the 69. That's the first thing I thought when I saw .44 Magnum L-frame. The primary reason I want one is that I don't see that gun being manufactured for very long....and it's darn neat to see ".44 Combat Magnum" stamped on the side of a barrel

I will give them credit for listening to their customers and also hope they would see fit to offer the 66, 69, 686 and 986's with a 3" barrel. (likewise with their existing 64 and 67).
I recently bought a 3" 66-3 and, WOW, that's THE GUN for me. As a result I'll soon be selling some off that won't get shot anymore. IMHO, the balance and weight is just so much better.

Nothing of interest to me. Make me a 9mm revolver like my old 3" 547 and I'll be in line to buy. But a 9mm with a 6 1/2" barrel? Why?

686 PC
I think I might get the new PC 686 if it can be had for less than MSRP. I would sell a few thing for that. There was one troubling thing that I read somewhere that the Performance Center guns are coming off the production line, sort of like the pro series, and that had started in 2013. I would want to know more about that. Are they doing less hand fitting?

Oh, well. No .32 K frame. Might just have to start another project.
But I'm "in line" at the LGS for a Model 69. Thinking that one might be scarce like .22 ammo for a while! Seems lots of folk here are on that L frame bandwagon. I told my dealer that if he gets multiples we'll be having a mass inspection before purchase.
Probably will be on the lookout for a 929 as well. Ought to be a hoot on steel.

The 66 looks like they just pulled the 66-7 CNC software off archive. It also had the 2-piece barrel. So long as they're going 2-piece, why not switch barrel?
The 69 is a step in the right direction, but Im still holding out hope for a 6-shot 10mm on the L-frame. Then Bill Jordan's original vision of the .41 magnum would be fulfilled.

S&W seems to be calming down on the plastics I guess the demand is letting up too. There smart marketing people. There offering more revolvers now. I'm tore between the "K" frames and the "N" frames for now. But I'd like to get something new that's different too.
Ruger seems to change its line up and discontinuing more and more. They cater to the cowboy shooting more I guess. They did discontinue there long barrel vaquero. The redhawk is gone they only offer the super redhawk. I should sending them an email thanking them for discontinuing everything I wanted to buy and sending me to the Smith & Wesson bus to ride on for a while. I don't think I'll be leaving s&w anytime soon.
