Default Optics on a 686

Hey!
Ok, I just dropped $200 and change on an UltraDot-4, 30 mm, with the Weaver base included. I haven't put it on my 4 inch 686 yet but I've shot one that a friend owns. I liked it so I got one.
I've mounted scopes on TC Contenders for years, but being relatively new to optics on revolvers, I am curious. What do others think about these and other types of optics on your revolvers?
My 57 year old eyeballs ain't what they used to be.

I have traditional scopes on my 629 and 625 colt. Bother are 6.5" barrels.
I like them for the reason you stated, old eyes.

I have Red Dots on my 686 with 6" barrel, my two 625's, my 16-4 (6"), my Custom 1911, my 520 (4"), and my 629 Light Hunter, etc.,etc.,

After losing the vision in my right eye (I shoot right handed), I tried a Red Dot and ended up putting them on nearly everything I shoot. The Red Dot sights enable me to "get my mojo back"...

I bought my 6" Model 686 from an estate sale. After I got it home and started shooting it, I noticed it spit a bit and the barrel cylinder gap was wider than my preference. I had my pistol smith, Jack Basham of Cincinnati, Ohio, set the barrel back and give me tight clearance in the barrel cylinder gap and re-throat the barrel. My first trip to the range, shooting standing at 25 yards (with the Red Dot Sight):

So, go for it!

I HAVE AN ULTRA DOT, ORIGINAL RED DOT, 1 INCH TUBE, 4MOA MOUNTED ON MY 8 3/8" 617 AND MY 686 OF THE SAME LENGTH. BOTH OF THEM SHOOT LIKE RIFLES. BEING AN OLD GEEZER, I HAVE VERY POOR EYESIGHT ALSO. THE RED DOTS MAKE ME LOOK GOOD. I'M SURE THAT YOU WILL LOVE YOURS…...
