Default Rescued a Model 15-2 Today

She was languishing in the counter at my LGS today wearing a pair of really ugly faux pearl grips. Took her home, cleaned her up and slapped on a pair of magnas. Voila! Smith revolver perfection!

As salt8 said, "nicely done." I have to admit I like a little bling on my revolvers, generally in the form of fancy grips, but those faux pearl grip were down right UGLY.....

Good job! I rescued one a few days ago. Can't beat a good Model 15.

Like Bell bottom jeans those Ajax fake pearls are not so much "Ugly" as "Out of style" but put em away for 20 years and chances are they recycle back into style.

BTW wondering what your 15-2 serial prefix is?
I have a CM in the K-705,000 range that shipped with non diamond Magnas but if its under K-650, probably had diamonds originally.

Looks like 1975.

Are you sure of that number? The M15-3 started in 1967.

I've got a 15-2 just like it, circa 1965. Great revolvers!

I can remember when the local Leo's carried those. I have great affection for that model. A couple of years ago, one was on the trade table at the local gun club for a reasonable price. I bought it and gave it to my son for a house gun for he and his wife.

They are great guns and when loaded with the proper ammo will do the job of self defense.

Gentlemen you are correct. It is, in fact, a 15-3.

I was in a bit of a hurry yesterday to get it into the safe before you-know-who saw it!

By the way, it is a great shooter! I ran a box of 158 gr. through it this morning and it would shoot 1" groups at 7 yds all day long. That's as good as it gets for me.

I bought one for myself almost 15 years ago. My wife and I went to the range, she shot it, and said, "This is MY gun." She was a deadly shot with it. She kept it in a big purse next to the bed along with 2 loaded speedloaders.
It was still there the day she died in 2011. I still keep it in a drawer in that same room.

They are GREAT shooters, and make first rate carry revolvers with a good holster. They might be a little harder to conceal than a J frame, but I doubt anything made today will outshoot them...The Combat Masterpiece, for sure.

Glad to see you put some nice grips on it. Sometimes I see used guns at the gun shop and wonder how in the world the previous owner could have carried it with such ugly grips? Should be a crime.
