Default NEW 986 Revolver

Hi guys,
Maybe someone can help me. I want to buy the new 986
S&W Revolver before we move to New York. I can't find any at my LGS. They are telling me it may take a year to get and they want a deposit. I don't have a year to wait !!! Once i'm up in N.Y. it's going to take a year or two before i can even get a permit. If anyone knows of one for sale, can you PM me.
Thank you

I would inquire directly with the S&W Customer Service office. If the guns are not being shipped yet they'll be able to tell you and if they have shipped they can give an idea with respect to distributors, etc.

If you're moving to NYC (I won't ask why; there must be one good reason, I suppose) I think you will have some issues with getting a handgun permit. Getting a carry permit will even be tougher. A home permit or range permit is not as difficult. If you're moving elsewhere in NYS I don't think it will be as monumentally difficult to obtain a handgun permit.

I'll not ask why in either case.

I do know they do NOT want me in NYS - their Governor said so! Jerkwad that he is.....

Extra note of caution:

In the event that you can obtain your 9mm revolver prior to moving to NYC/NYS you're technically going to be forbidden to own it until and unless you get that permit. NYC for sure. I do not know what the procedure is for telling the Firearms Authorities in New York City that you want a handgun permit for a gun that you already own but I can assure you that they will take a very dim view of your possessing it without their permit. "I had it before I moved here" will not cut it as far as I recall.

I called S&W last week and spoke to them and told them i'm having a hard time finding that Gun. He then ask me the names of the LGS i went to. I told him 3 different gun stores. At that point he got very--Hmmm -what's the word ??? You can hear it in his voice. He said to me -NOT TRUE !
I said, what's not true ? He said, we shipped a lot of guns out.
Not a nice guy.....
I'm back to just asking around.......
But that doesn't mean i don't like S&W guns. I will always be a lover of S&W even tho that guy was a bxxxx.

I don't think any of the new PC guns have hit the distributors yet. I'm just starting to see the non-PC ones pop up for sale here and there and now I have seen at least an out of stock page on some of the PC guns on a few online dealer sites so hopefully not too much longer. Waiting patiently for my new 460 isn't fun either.

You cannot possess (or according to some even touch) a handgun in NY unless you have a permit.

DO NOT BRING A HANDGUN TO NY IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A PERMIT.

You will have to take it out of state and SHIP it to an FFL AFTER you get your permit.

You are better off buying the gun and having it set in an FFL dealer's safe while you wait your 9 months to a year to get your permit. YES wait times are now a year in my county.

I was stationed at Plattsburgh, NY in the air force. Forty-three years later I cannot think of a single reason for going back to New York even to visit. It's not the weather, it's the gun laws and taxes.
