Picked up a couple 586's on friday...
I got passed by last year on a .357 6" bbl. so I didn't want to let this one get away. It's a newer 586, 7rd., 6"bbl., blued finish and key lock.Right next to it in the case was it's older but smaller brother...586-1 4"bbl and blued finish. The 586-1 had the modification done so no problems there.
I originally went to the LGS looking for a "45 RECON" but they said that got sold earlier.I don't spend much time in the semi section so I thought I'd check it out.Lo and behold what shows it's head is the 45 RECON I wanted.
Walked out with 3 quality handguns on Friday but the guys at the store said I wont be so lucky next time. They swore they wouldn't let me out of the store until my credit card started smoking and popped up "DENIED!" on their machine.
I know the RECON doesn't belong here but it came with the others.

Congrats! I do well to get three guns in a year, much less a day.
Like the 586/686 series. Heckuva of a .357 platform.

Finds like that remind me of the circled Sears catalog wants coming true on a Christmas morning. Most years were compiled of underwear and socks but at least once in my life the mother load came true!
You my friend got the MOAB, the Mother Of All Buys! Enjoy the Recon it should be just as kick ***** as a CQB I have enjoyed. The pleasure of hitting lucky sevens at a fun shop is as meaningful as the aforementioned Christmas morning.
Congrats and enjoy.

586-686 series; IMHO best 357s ever created. I have an N Frame 27-2 5" that languishes in the safe while the 686-4 4" goes out on a regular basis.

Wish I could tell you something about it! All I know is that it was a production run for RSR (similar to Lew Horton) back around 1999.I think around 2k were made in this model.I emailed RSR to see if they would supply me with info on my gun and they said they don't keep records.I haven't shot it yet.It took me about 20 minutes to get the slide off and another 15 minutes to reassemble.S&W sure makes it difficult to field strip their semi's.
Here is the description of the gun where purchased...
Quote:
Smith & Wesson Performance Center 45 RECON, chambered in .45acp and was introduced in 1999. Features include a 4-1/4” ported match barrel, titanium-coated spherical bushing,Novak Lo-Mount two white dot rear sight, post white dot front sight, ambidextrous decocker, Stainless steel slide, alloy with checkered front strap and checkered plastic wraparound grips.
