Can't get the 325 Night Guard out of my mind:Update Bought One
I posted questions about this gun last month. I scratched my new (to me) gun itch with a 29 no dash in the box that lasted for a while, but I'm itching again.
So, again with some questions. Today I looked at the same NIB gun that I posted about the last time. Its still there due to the extreme price. I have small hands and short fingers. The gun is not comfortable for me with the stock grips that cover the back strap. While there I tried a 625 JM and the grips on it felt better, but not as good as magnas on a square butt. I think I probably need some sort of a round butt grip that does not cover the back strap and does not have finger grooves. Finger groove grips do not fit my hands. I have several sets in N and K frames and while they look good, they do not work for me. The first question, or actually solicitation for suggestions, is what type of grips will look good on a Night Guard, will not cover the back strap, do not have finger grooves and will fit my hands?
Second, I have seen some Magnaport or Jovino modified guns (photos not actual guns) that reduce the grip to K frame size. I talked to Magnaport and they will not rework grip frame size on scandium frames. Has anyone seen such a modification done to a scandium frame gun by another company?
Hopefully I can get the itch scratched this time.
Thanks,
Bill

Those conversions were from N-frame square butt revovlers.
The reason that those grips were modified to K-frame round butt is because in those days the N-frame round butt had not yet been invented.
By going to an existing grip frame configuration plenty of stocks were already available.
Forget about spending money to cut down the grip frame. Just change out the Pachmayr Compacs for a set of Pachmayr Compac Professionals or a set of Hogue Bantam grips.
Unless you have tiny hands, these should get the size down enough for you.

I have a S&W 657 41 Mag. with a RB frame. My favorite grip for that gun fit's your needs - Ahrends Retro Banana grips...
Hope this helps,

Bill ... You can try a Hogue Monogrip or a Pachmayr Deccelerator, with the former probably fitting a bit better. But physical limits can't be altered beyond a certain point ... small hands and short fingers may simply not work on a NG (or any N-frame).
One suggestion ... Check out Jim Cirillo's books and DVDs. He had stubby fingers and talked about how he changed his grip to compensate. He was a dead-on shot with revolvers and semis.

Thanks,
I have the Hogue's and Pachmayr's, unfortunately both are too big and I don't like the look.
I have and carry N frames, but all those I carry are square butt. With magna's and a grip adapter I am fine with them. I qualified with and carry a 27-2, 3.5 inch with smooth magna's. I shot a higher score with it than with an HK USP Tactical 45, a Kimber Super Carry Ultra+ and a Kimber Solo. I may have to look at a set of round magnas.
I like the idea of the "banana" grips as that is what was on my issued Model 13 back in the 80's. It was a very comfortable grip.

Badger Grips
I put Badger Custom grips on all my NGs. I know you said you don't like finger grooves but Jim might be able to make a set without them. His website says "Special orders are encouraged." Give him a call to see.
(These are his black grips but the flash makes them look more brown than they actually are.)

Thanks,
I love the K frame Compac Pro grips. Unfortunately they don't make it in N frame. I even destroyed a K frame set trying to modify it to fit an N frame, but it didn't work.
Great responses and still looking for ideas.
Thanks,
Bill

Below you'll see my 627 Pro sporting the 625JM-style grips and a PC627 UDR sporting S&W PC Shop (SKU #414170000 - available from S&W Accessories). I am not fond of fg's either - those are 'minimalist'!
Again - I wanted a 325 NG a few years back - as a nightstand gun. I settled on a then brand new S&W - the Governor - as it was too similar, other than an OAL 7/8" longer and being <1.8 oz heavier. It is a great .45 ACP 'up close and personal' defensive revolver - which will always chamber and fire .45 GAP< .45 Colt & Schofield, and even 2.5" .410 shotshells. It saved me over $300, too... just a thought!

Thanks for the reply.
I have felt the JM and like their feel. How does the minimalist finger groove grip feel in comparison to the JM? Does it feel thicker or larger?
Thanks for the Governor suggestion, but I don't think I would warm up to one of those. Hard to say why, just don't like it. I am picky when it comes to my guns; particularly my carry guns which the Night Guard would be if I get one.
Thanks,
Bill

If you get a 325 NG I recommend you look for an older set of factory "Combat" stocks like these:
I find these as comfortable and still controllable as the rubber handles.

Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately the finger grooves are not in the right places for my small hands/short fingers. I have a set on K and N frame grip like those and they just don't work. Its a terrible shame as they are absolutely beautiful. Strangely enough they fit my wife and she loves the feel of them and she is not a gun person.
I have tried many of the "usual suspects" and am hoping for something new and improved.
Thanks,
Bill

I found a 325 Night Guard locally for a decent price considering it had an extra set of Miculek grips and 27 moon clips with it. It had been fired but looks absolutely new.
I am still trying different grips to better fit my hand. So far a set of Altamont magnas with a grip adapter fit better. What is interesting is that I took these off my 610 and they fit my hands better on the Night Guard than on the 610. I also put the factory rubber grips from the Night Guard on the 610 and they put my hand so far back I could not reach the trigger. I know both the revolvers should be the same size but they appear not to be, strange.
I will take and post photos tomorrow. But for now, I need suggestions as to a holster. I generally like pancake holsters and specifically Roy Baker Holsters. Only problem is that Baker stop production long before S&W came out with a 2.5 inch N frame.
I think I am going to like this gun.

Congratulations
Have you tried the Jerry Miculek grips for the N-frame round butt? They might do the trick and they have no finger grooves

There's only one holster suggestion I can make ---> Ray @ Lobo; Forum member, gentleman, expert craftsman.

Still looking for holsters.

I have a pair of smooth Spegel's, fit and fire very comfortably...
Holster is a Galco CM134B Combat Master.

Thanks Mike, A quick question.
I have small hands and generally the finger groove grips do not fit my hands well, which I hate as they are usually quite attractive. That said, most of the finger groove grips have multiple grooves cut into them. The Spegel grips only have one, does this make a difference in hand position? If so, this might just be an option. I tried a PC 627 at the gun show last weekend that has only one groove; however, the pronounced "hill" (don't know what to call the highest part of the groove) of the groove did not work for me.
Thanks,
Bill
