Default Rail/Mount for Aimpoint H-1 on S&W 686

I have a S&W 686 3" barrel sitting in my safe and thought I might go ahead and put a rail on it and use an Aimpoint H-1 at the range (just for something different).

I like Weigand rails but would like to know if anyone knows for sure that the rail which is 4.5" will fit on a 686 with a 3" barrel....I'm not sure if it will have clearance once it's gets close to the front sight.

I'd like a shorter rail but am at a loss as to whether there are any out there (worth buying) or not. It is just for range use but I do want a quality rail.

My gun is factory drilled and tapped.

Thanks for any info from someone that has a rail on a 3" 686.
