642-1 Headed Back To S&W --- Misfires
My second 642-1 ( on bottom of pic) is boxed up and headed out this next week for repairs. I just received the shipping label from CS.
It is giving me misfires with stock springs with various brands of ammo while it's brother will fire anything. When you only have five to start with, misfires aren't a good thing!
I will update when I get more info from S&W... Who said revolvers are 100% reliable?

Interesting to say the least!
Before you sent it back did you check to see of the strain screw was all the way in?
A factory new S&W should ignite any commercial grade primer.
Hope it all works out well for you!

Coil springs on the J frames.
No strain screw.

Not really...
The top one is almost two years old and the problem gun is about 5 months old.
Headed down to FedEx to ship it out now.

It misfired with both stock and Wolff springs.

Must be something else... firing pin, maybe? I hope Smith gets your gun running and back to you soon.

I remember hearing about this gun before. Is the problem light primer strikes? For my own curiosity, did you do any measuring on end shake and head space?

Did not measure it.
We will see what they come up with... They should receive it today. I'm guessing they will get to it sometime next week.

Did the problem start immediately or develop over time? I own four S&W revolvers, all bought NIB, and all worked as they are supposed to right away, and ever since. I assume if there was a manufacturing problem it would show up right away.
