New 19-5 purchase
I recently purchased a 19-5 6" barrel blued, it's in excellent condition with paperwork but no box. The serial number is
ABK 3246. Could anyone help me with date of manufacture and approximate value?

Sounds like an early-80s gun. The 19-5 you describe is probably a $500 gun here in Indiana, give or take - some dealers might try to charge quite a bit more. 19-5s weren't polished quite as nicely as 19-3s and 19-4s and some folks think the non-recessed cylinder/non-pinned barrel thing is a big deal, so it is probably worth a bit less than a similar, earlier gun. Does it still have the original stocks? If the stocks have been replaced, that would probably lower the value $50 or so.

I bought a 4 inch 19-5 six months ago here in Southern Calif. .....I paid $600 , a feel I got a fairly good deal as they are very rare here. The finish is incredible , absolute top quality.....but even better its a tack driver and incredibly tight and well made. I couldn`t be happier with this gun , there were no quality control problems when this gun was made.

Welcome to the forum and your first post, 58worldseries.
Looks like your 19-5 is an '82 gun. Approximate value for gun alone in the current market is between $550 and $650, give or take depending on region, dispositions of buyer and seller, and shifts in the weather.
As a general rule, the longer the Model 19 barrel, the less the premium; snubby 2.5" gets a little more cash than a 4", which gets a little more a 6", all else being equal -- even though they're all excellent revolvers with slightly different tasks. (The only exception is the truly rare Model 19 3", which is a collector's gun of great value.)
Nickel also almost always gets a little more cash than blue.
Too, as noted the -5s and later get a touch less love because they're not pinned and recessed, which mechanically is irrelevant; pinned and recessed is just associated with a (right or wrongly) lionized era for S&W and some will pay a premium for that.
I'd double check the provenance of the paperwork that came with the gun; I've heard of original box and no paperwork, but original paperwork and no box -- while certainly possible -- would be a new one on me.
Regardless, congrats on your new acquisition -- the Model 19s in all configurations are great. Go enjoy...

We'll it looks like I did alright on it, I wasn't really concerned with price as much as year of manufacture. My friend owns a local gun shop and took it in on trade. It has the original grips, with the white out lined sight and red ramp. Since my friend owns the shop he gave it to me for trade in value. at 375.00. The previous owner said he bought it new, years ago. The box got tattered and he pitched it but still had the paperwork In a folder. If I can figure out how , I'll post a pic . Thanks, guys

Welcome.
Wow, I can't believe all the 6" with RR/WO and TT/TH I have seen in the past few days.

I thought about that. Both of my 6" 19's had the patridge front sight. I had thought they all came that way.
If I say I've never seen a 6" 66 with a patridge front sight does that mean one will pop right up?

Good looking Model 19. Personal preferences about the P&R thing notwithstanding, that revolver should take a backseat to none. For what it is, it's as good as they get.

They are both wider than the standard parts and the spur of the target hammer is also longer. Your gun appears to have both.

Just picked up a 19-5 that has the second amendment on the right side of the frame, is this normal?

Sounds like a special run -- S&W made many of them, especially in the '80s, which is the era of 19-5s. Don't have the SCSW in front of me at present, but will shortly. In the mean time, consider posting some pics...
EDIT:
Have SCSW in front of me now and can't find anything on a Model 19 Second Amendment edition; nor via searching, either. Could be I'm not looking in the right places; could be a factory job that isn't on the official roster; could be a previous owner had the work done themselves.
Now I really want to see pics.

Will try with the pictures, I'm still at the bottom of the learning curve when it comes to posting pictures.

No problem, I personally never understood the whole hijacking thing anyway. We're BSing about guns .. Whatever. Nice gun btw. I'm guessing the previous owner had the second amendment inscription ingraved perhaps?

I liked the shifts in the weather comment too..lol
I will shoot it for sure! That 686+ sounds nice. My preference is for the shorter barrels myself
Just picked up a 627 PC 2 5/8 " and love it! I only picked up the 19-5 because I couldn't beat the price!

It really looks like a factory job and the rest of this guys guns were made to shoot and not to look pretty. He had as nice a WW2 Colt 1911 A1 as I have ever seen that was made into a comp gun a long time ago and just ruined
