The serial prefix is "BEN". Moon clips are not required.

You can shoot it without moon clips but will have to eject the empties one by one with a pencil or like tool. The ejector star will not engage the casing rim. I purchased a dash 4 a few months back and member Taroman turned me on to this moon clip tool. Best thing since sliced bread.

A further option for shooting without 'moonies' is to run .45 Auto Rim cartridges in it. The round is not as easy as .45 ACP to find, but it is available from online venders, or you might find some at a gun show. I found a G.I. 'moon clip' tool at a show. It was probably issued with the S&W [Rev. .44 Hand Ejector], and Colt [Rev.1909] Victory guns. Works great, and I paid less than ten bucks for it!

Klyde hit it on the head- full moon clips (holds 6) half moons hold 3 make for quick loading and unloading. The only reason to chamfer the cylinder is for faster reloading that you might need in IDPA where time is measured. Otherwise dont waste $$$
