I'm new to this forum and have not been able to find out much about the Model 620 .357/4"Barrel that I purchased back in 2009. I'm out in CA and after Obama's election gun regulation fears went way up, guns were scarce and sold at very high prices. I was purchasing my first revolver and picked up this Model 620 NIB for full retail in 2009. Since then I've purchased several more revolvers and would like to purchase my first semi-auto and to sell this Model 620 to help fund the new purchase. I've only fired about 300 rounds through this gun and cleaned after each time. Its in excellent condition and I have all the box and all the papers. I've not been able to find much info on this model, though I know there is some controversy regarding the half lug under barrel. I'm trying to get an idea of what this gun might be worth. I've got two friends who are each interested in getting their first revolver and want to be fair regarding price if after they try it out at the range they still want to buy it. Thanks in advance for any input you can give me.

Welcome! The CA firearms market can be tricky to predict due to the scarcity of used guns and other factors, but I would guess your model 620 would be worth about $550 as described. It was not in production for long but has not become a collector's item yet. Hope this is helpful.

I've seen exactly one used 620 for sale locally at a small gun show and was very tempted to pick it up. The asking price was 599.00 which IMO was slightly high but within reason considering the model. The only reason I didn't buy it was it would have cleaned out my M1A fund and I've found that you only succeed at gaining a particular goal by not being distracted. Even so, I still kind of regret not buying it. Because I already have a 620 and know first hand just how freakishly accurate this particular model can be.

This model with the two piece barrel can be one of the most inherently accurate guns available. Some folks are scared of the two piece barrel.

Appreciate the replies. Since its a friend who wants to buy it, I'll probably sell it for $450 to $500.

I'd love to find one. I'm a fan of two-piece barrels. As I've said many times before (and will continue to say in hopes S&W is listening) I'd like to see a switch-barrel.


I've watched a couple on GB. They don't seem to bring as much as 686s, likely due to the two-piece barrel.
