Default Advice on a 686 + needed

I purchased new in about 2000, a 686+ (-5) 4". Over the years I screwed up and had it ported. I want to get a new 4" barrel. Should I just send it in to S&W, or should I buy a barrel from S&W and have it replaced locally, or, can anyone recommend another option and/or person to do it. Thanks

If yours is the mountain gun a new barrel will cost more than you paid for the gun. If it's the full lug barrel, I would try S&W first, if they can't you can find the barrel and have it done locally. Good Luck!

Why would you say the porting is a mistake?

S&W should be able to hook you up with a 4-Inch barrel and with them you will know that the work was done right.
