Default You're a snubbie fanboy when...

Some of this applies to revolver guys in general, but thought I would include them here as well. Please feel free to add to the list.

(1) You own more than two J or K frames of the same style and barrel length i.e. a 642 and a 442 or a 19 and a 66.

(2) You know what runs of the Charter Arms Bulldog are the better made ones.

(3) You know that there is a .44Spl and own a revolver chambered for it.

(4) You know the difference between a centennial and a bodyguard J frame.

(5) You carry full power .357 Magnums in a revolver with less than a 3" barrel.

(6) When asked why you carry a snubbie when there are small(er) semi autos that carry more ammo you reply that if you can't get it done with 5 or 6 rounds 15 wont help you.

(7) Even though you agree with #6 you carry two snubbies since if you empty the first snubbie you can draw the other one faster than you can reload the first one.

(8) You know what a Bloodwork snubbie looks like.

(9) You know that Colt made a revolver named the Magnum Carry.

(10) You carry a L or N frame snubbie in a normal basis.

(11) You actually own a X frame snubbie and you have shot it more than once.

(12) Your first choice in a 9mm is a S&W 940 or a Ruger SP101.

(13) You know what a Fitz Special looks like.

(14) The name John Henry Fitzgerald means something to you.

(15) You cried when in the book Ghostman the main character tore up his Detective Special.

(16) You actually bobbed the hammer on a DA/SA revolver.

(17) You carry a speed loader and a speed strip.

Thanks for reading.
Except for # 2, 5, 10, 11, 12, 15. I am a Snubbie fanboy.

My question is what's not to like about a snubbie? I think everybody should have a few.

Not much really, I think that everyone should own at least one J and K frame snubbie.

Guilty: 5 J snubbies, 3 K snubbies, 2 L snubbies, and 3 N snubbies. Got it bad. Is there a 12 step program for this? Also, add #19. You know who John Jovino was.

Not that I've heard of. You could try buying lots more so that you get sick of them.

markyboy57 has it pretty bad, but I think he's happy.

This is one mighty fine post. I have a confession, I too like snubbies. There is such a positive attitude adjustment when I shoot my .41 mag snubbie.... Yes life is really gud some times. My .41 mag will rock and roll even if it is just a 5 shot revolver. Be safe all and remember what Memorial Day is about... Proudly fly the stars and stripes. Just my thoughts from the Big Sky Country,, Montana.

You have it bad when you have to stop and count your 3 inch and under revolvers. You really have it bad if you have a 2 1/2 model 10 (not easy to find). Below just 3 first 64-2 marked Detroit Police and second top 649-1 unmarked Michigan State Police BUG and a 49 it was a BUG also.

I have informally coined the term "J-hound." I've already listed your handle on our membership rolls. The club secretary, 'snubbyfan,' will have your membership card on its way to you after the holiday weekend.

To add to the above list: You know you're a J-hound when:

You take more time choosing a J-frame for that day than choosing your tie.

You show photos of your cats while others post photos of their guns.

You exchange cylinders between Js more often than the bandit Tuco (Eli Wallach) did in "The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly."
(Sorry, TucsonMTB!)

You shoot J-snubs at 100 yds and more. And hit!

You buy literally every snub in your state (MA) so that almost none reach me here in Vegas (Take that, KLYDE!)

You carry a 342 in your jacket pocket even when you're not wearing a jacket (KLYDE, me)

You don't needlessly display your J to strangers in LGS's; you carry it discreetly as the life-preserving tool it is.

I'll try to come up with more.

A M10-5 2", a M19-4 2.5" and a M27-2 (does 3.5" count as a snubbie?).
AND, I still love my wife even though she's a Colt fan; her .32 S&W Long and .38 SPCL. Detective Specials are 1970's vintage.
I have to admit I like them too. A lot.

I keep a box of 38s in the car so If I get time to sneak off to the range during work hours i can shoot my carry snubbie.

Is a 3" 624 a snubbie? I am getting one soon.

Well heck...Guilty on all counts. I no longer have the X frame snub that came in the "Bear Survival Kit(?)" Since it became worth more than it meant to me and I sold it...Otherwise, guilty as charged!

22. You've had revolvers with long barrels custom trimmed to the snub length of your own choosing.

I've done it, and have at least one more slated for the chopping block! And I'm guilty of more than just a couple in that original list.

Great minds work alike! Cool post! My only question, Dave, is why you chose such a long bbl as a replacement...

Some folks on the Forum write: "If there are no photos, it doesn't exist." I opine: "If it can't fit in a pocket, it doesn't exist."

Best wishes and happy holiday!

I've been known to stuff a 3 inch j-frame into my pocket.

I have been tempted to have a 617 cut down to a snubby. A short barreled 617 (10 shots!) would be sooo much fun.

....you spend more to have a "pristine" Model 36 repaired than you paid for it NIB in 1985.

I think it's important to note that you don't have to own 50 snubbies in order to be a "snubbie fanboy".

I should know, I own but one!

A few other possibilities not covered above:

A) When a snubby is your avatar. (See above)

B) When you've loaded 200gr 0.360" dia. bullets in .38 S&W cases and shot them out of a Terrier out to 50 yards.

C) Have also an Enfield snubbie that appears to have been shortened in service:

Oddly, I don't think most folk would think of me at first as a member of the club.

ETA: D) Your EDC snubbie looks like it served a couple of tours in Iraq.

My first thought is that a fanboy - to me, one who is a bit over the top in his identification with something or someone - is one who identifies with, owns, carries, promotes, and defends a gun larger in caliber than 38 Special and with a barrel shorter than 3". Some others of us might think that hurts just thinking about it.

Be a man!!!

My take on a fanboy of snubbies might be different, but that's generally how I roll. It's the only handgun (1) I owned and carried for 21 years and it satisfied my defensive needs just fine.

Stay safe, John

I had a chiefs special for years. Then I joined this website. Now I have a 3" 36 no dash and a 637, the old chiefs special and looking at one more 2" 38.

Getting a 3" 624 sooner or later.

Its all your fault!

You buy your 1st snubbie, carry it around for a few days, then lock all your auto's in the safe!

#1. Just because you already have a 2 1/2" 19-3 doesn't mean you don't need a 2 1/2" 19-4".

I like that guilty plea - I'll plead it as well.

5 Model 10s w/2 inch barrels (the nickel one is STUNNING; the rest are just wonderful/RB and SB

3 J-frames, Models 32, 649, 642

1 Colt Cobra (that counts, right?)

1 NAA mini-derringer .22 Short

2 High Standard derringers .22 WMR

1 Model 19 2.5"

I've had a few others that I have literally given away to people who I thought should have them. And, since this a revolver thread, I'll omit the snubby pistols from this list. There are several. I included the derringers because, well, because........

You know you're a snubby fan when you go to the LGS to buy one thing and leave with something else, and that something else has a short barrel!
