Default Model 63 list changes?

Anyone have this handy? Can't seem to find it online.

I have the opportunity to buy a Model 63 no dash (3 inch, 6 shot) and a Model 63-4 (5 inch, 8 shot). I'm leaning towards the 63-4 because of the longer barrel and higher capacity, but I'm kind of a sucker for classic no dashes.

Is the Model 63-4 a reintroduction series? or is it still old school?

Thanks

There is no first series model 63 with a 3" barrel; the current 63-5 is a 3". The -4 is out of production; it was built on the J Magnum frame and has the internal lock.

If the prices were equivalent, and both were in reasonable shape, I'd get the no dash. To me, a 5-inch J-frame looks weird - out of proportion.

Ah. He did say he might be wrong about the 3 inch length which he referred to as "about 3 inches" so maybe he meant it's a 4" ?

Was the no dash 63 ONLY available in 4"?

He probably measured the barrel forward of the frame and not all the way back to the cylinder face, a common misdeed . There were 2" model 63s but also -3s.

Which revolver to buy depends on intended purposes. The no dash will probably be worth slightly more in 20 years. In my opinion, the 5" is one of the finer handling revolvers Smith ever made, even if it is really too small for my hands. Finding holsters for the 5" is a problem, but if it will be mostly a range gun it shouldn't matter.

I'm looking to plink but also ensure I purchase a collectors item. Last month I bought a no dash 66 and 60 so I'm leaning to the no dash 63 for a younger brother!
