Default J-Frame Grips and Speed Loaders

After searching the forum, it appears that Ergo Delta and Hogue Tamers will clear a speed loader.
The grips that shipped with my recent No-Lock 442 will not work.
What are other options for J-Frame grips that will facilitate the use of speed loaders?
I usually pocket carry in a Remora pocket holster.
Thanks.

This may not be the best answer, but I use rubber grips and trim away the area that blocks the speed loader. Have done it on two pairs of grips, the ones that came on my 642 and a set of Pachmayr Compac's.

Yes, it can be done with dremel sanding drums. I've not had trouble with Comp loaders and Taurus grips.

I really don't want to mod the original grips.

Uncle Mike's Boot grips are dinky little concealable grips that work well with speedloaders.

They were too small for my extra large hands so I use Pachmayr Compact grips that I've clearanced for speedloaders.

The Uncle Mike's are long gone.

Which ones handled recoil better? I have fairly large, boney hands with little to no meat to pad my palms.

The Pachmayrs cover and cushion the backstrap.

I like the standard Hogue Monogrip, clears speedloaders such as Safariland Comp I's. Also improves how the gun points and makes the length to the trigger a little longer.

The original UM boot grips allow clearance for the HKS loaders. The S&W knock-off of the UMs is a little fuller and will block the loader ever so slightly. It can be gently trimmed with an X-acto knife. That said, I never use the HKS units, simply carry 2 speed strips that fit better in my pockets.

I have the Hogue Tamers and my Safariland Comp I speed loaders work well with them. The Hogue Tamers also cover the back strap and do a good job of cushioning.

I really enjoy using these Nil walnut grips with my S&W Model 638. No problem using speed loaders.

These are Altamont Rosewood combat grips. I like them, but I did have to invest five hours modifying the left grip, so my speed loaders would work.

Which speedloaders are you considering? I chose the Fivestar firearms speedloaders because they worked well with the crimson trace grips that came on my 642ct

As of now, I only have an HKS and a Safariland speedloader for my 442. I'll check into the Fivestar.

factory wood grips with a tyler t-grip is the best way to go. gives good control of the gun and the speed loaders will work too.

I've used HKS and 5 star. The 5 star are quality pieces, however if you're not careful you can scratch the finish on your gun with one real quick. Especially so if you have an alloy gun. Just my experience. They are aluminum and have edges on them.

What I did was go to Ebay and purchase a set of Uncle Mikes J frame grips for my 642 and my 638. The Uncle Mikes grips that were made for J frames are relieved for use with speed loaders these grips used to come standard on many J frames and they are excellent grips.

I have Altamonts on my 642-1, Pacmyer Compacs on my 642-2 and Uncle Mikes on my 638. Don't know if speed loaders work or not I use speed strips, as I think speed loaders are just too bulky to carry around with a pocket gun.

Nicely done, sir! The medallion must have made it a bit of challenge, but it looks great.

I have Hogue Bantam grips on my 642. They clear the speedloader and look and feel good.

With all the discussions concerning speed loaders and the J frame revolvers in the past you would think some of these grip manufactures would read that there is a problem...

Yeah, but . . . then what would all of us folks who like the appearance of wood and also like to "tinker" do with all that extra spare time?

I have Altamont Rosewood Oversized and have been considering a similar bit of trim work.

I do o.k. with the strips, but cannot seem to get the timing down.
