Default What's your favorite style of J-frame?

Just wondering what everyone's favorite style of J-frame is.

Please feel free to comment on which model of that style is your favorite as well.

Thanks.

Default Favorite J Frame Never Offered

To the best of my knowledge, and I readily admit I could be totally wrong, my favorite J-frame has yet to be made. It would be somewhat miniaturized K-frame Model 19 combat magnum with a 2 1/4 to 2 1/2"" heavy barrel, full length, shrouded extractor rod, round butt and an adjustable rear sight.

I voted for the centenial, because it suits the way I carry. But for aesthetics I vote the stainless cheif special.

I have yet to find a J frame that I don't like. My favorite is always my most recent purchase. This is my new to me pocket carry. Happy 4th.

I have an old .38 special Model 640. It's hard to beat the beauty of an all stainless steel revolver.

Not putting J collectors down but to me a J frame is made to be carried. That being the case the Centennials get my vote. The humpbacks are right up there also. I sold off my 36's, 60 and 649. Just two now.

640-1 for belt carry and 342 Ti for pocket.

For IWB it is the 649. It is nice not having that trigger jabbing me yet still have SA. I have a tuck-able holster that works well. A Don Hume IWB give me the best draw. The 649 is a little too heavy for every day pocket carry.

I also have a m640 and 60 they get carried some days.

Maybe I'll buy a 642 or 442 next. I have been buying way too many larger revolvers lately.

BTW Also will carry K frames. 19/66s

---------------------------------------------------------

EDIT: The thought entered my head and a half hour later I have that 442.

Just looked on Armslist and found a 442 with case for $360.00 Seller claims only 50 rounds trough it.

I can almost hear you thinking, "no no not Armslist"

I talked with the seller who is nearby in Pendel PA and we will do the transfer at a gun store and munitions manufacturer in Pendel that was unknown to me. Modern Munitions. Only open by appointment and only charge $25.00 for a transfer. How about that. (Are you listening Gary? Another stop on your weekly rounds.)

I have the sickness bad, really bad. How many times have I said "this is my last gun" or better yet, "I can stop when ever I want".

Received my new centennial 442 yesterday and was pleasantly surprised how tame it was. Was expecting it to be really snappy but it's an easy firing d/a. Kicked it around a few days between it the 642 and the 638 which had the lock. So happy with this 442 no lock. Have 3 m60 d/a s/a and wouldn't part with any. Next on the list is a ladysmith for the queen. Gotta keep them happy

Picked up a mint 97% model 42 pre L serial number at a LGS for $300 last month. Really a nice piece with minor wear on the top edges. Just finish rubbed off in tiny specs. A little paint pen and it looks 100%. Haven't fired it yet. Perfect for pocket carry.

I prefer anything with a short barrel but my number one carry gun is my 442. It goes with me everywhere I go and it's also become my favorite range gun as well.

I rarely shoot snubbies anything other than DoubleAction so I have no clue why I voted and have Humpbacks...

649 modified by TK Custom to shoot .38 Super and .38 Special...

Michigan State Police special 38 with stainless cylinder...

While I voted Centennial, but I love them all. Especially my recent desire for the Bodyguard "Humpbacks" as I have recently purchased a 649 and 638. And a traditional 36 is just very cool in every way.

Trolleyguy, I admire your decisiveness!

I have only one J frame, and it is a 642. Cenntenials are snag free and DAO. They make great concealment guns. Though typically in my pocket, I've been experimenting with a belly band for the last two weeks or so. So far, I like that way to carry.

642 with a belt clip. No holster needed, minimal bulk, good DAO trigger and it hides well. What's not to like?

I've owned most at one time or another the 642 is my favorite with my 638 a close second. I used to have a M-60 no dash with a bobbed hammer and I foolishly sold it.

I like the exposed hammer guns & Centennial about equally, don't like the Bodyguard at all. I have a 642 I pocket carry occasionally, a couple of model 60s that I sometimes deep cover conceal, & a 4" model 63 that goes in the woods every time I do.

Years ago I use to have a Chief Special that I turned into a Bodyguard by installing Bianchi Lightning Grips.
I ended up selling it and buying a 340PD for the lighter weight and .357 capability.

I have a 37 and 36, both with bobbed hammers. Also an early 49 that's just too nice to carry. I shoot Js DA so a hammer just gets in the way and I don't really need them on a J frame.

640 Pro-Series.
Mica pocket holster, and three speed strips in off pocket to balance a bit.
Good pair of suspenders, and the weight goes away.
Belly band when riding my motorcycles.

Centennial, learned to shoot DAO as a cop 45 years ago, can't break the habit. Great J frame to shoot hot 38s through.

Have a 642 that I also carry but this is my favorite. Have Pacy Compact grips on it now. Helps with the recoil on these old hands.

Centennial preferred with de-horned (bobbed hammer) chiefs special not far behind but really all models are ok IMO.

I only have one J frame so far, a M&P 340. So I voted Centennial.

Maybe someday I can obtain the others @ make some comparisons.

Centennial all the way. I own 2 of them, but my favorite has to be my 642 Pro no lock. Love that little thing. I also have a M37 with a bobbed hammer, so that's almost like a Centennial

Default Fun Poll!

I find myself constantly checking in to see if my beloved Chief's Specials are catching up in the voting!

Although my EDC is a 638-3, the majority of my j-frames are exposed hammer models. Having the single action option is a real asset to me.

Started out with this 37 ....

The last one I bought was this one ....

But I think I've settled on this little revolver as "the best" ...

Guess my vote goes to the "hammerless" frame!

While I went with the Chief's Special, it was because I didn't have the opportunity to vote for other favorites, the Models 34 & 35, as well as the near-mythical Model 631... in short, small caliber, adjustable sighted Kit Guns! I love my Baby Chief (it's in my CCW rotation) but the J-frame platform is also perfect for the Kit Gun.

I like my 36 Square Butt. At the time of purchase 11-1972 S&W revolvers were not well stocked in the area shops. I wanted a steel gun w/round butt. I settled for a square butt and have never regretted it. It carries well concealed & with a Tyler T & I consistently surprise myself with it's accuracy. SA is nice for those long shots that in real life would most likely never be needed or tried.
In those days "automatics" were too "dangerous" & thus many if not most agencies prohibited them for off duty cary.

First choice is the Model 38 old style Bodyguard, second is a square butt Model 37.
