My Latest Police Turn-In
It finally arrived! Buds Gun Shop had S&W Model 10 police turn-in's up for grabs a couple of weeks ago and I jumped in for one...someday I may learn to always buy TWO!!!
Anyway, it arrived at my FFL today and when I picked it up I noticed the VPA (Victoria Police Academy) inventory number tag!!
It is always nice to know where these come from.
This one is a Model 10-11............Serial CDC7321

vipermd, no markings behind the cylinder except for the normal trade mark.
Serial number is listed inside the crane and on the butt. However, I haven't seen S&W numbers that appear to be put on with a tool that makes dots!!
Under the grips - on the frame- are numbers: 22844 500
The 500 is repeated inside the crane.
I'll get out in the back yard tomorrow and run some rounds through it.

Bought a Victoria Police 10-8 on one of their previous sales. (Buds) Sold the 10, and replaced it with a 64-3. I bought this when I had the 10, because I found it, and thought it was cool! Bob

Yep. I bought one of those a couple of years ago. Again, should have bought TWO.
My youngest daughter claimed it as hers. Then her home was robbed and it was gone!!! Dang, that was one nice handling Model 10!!

Well, my wife bought a nice wooden box that resembles a casket. It has a open top and a drawer underneath. I fixed up a display for the revolver.
BANANAMAN had a VICTORIA POLICE pin that he sent me.
I have the entire thing on display.
The box:
The interior:
BANANAMAN also came up with an Australian Duty Holster and I was happy to buy it from him for the display.
This looks much better than the old Hunter holster I had:

My later model 10 has that style of engraving on the crane. Made me nervous when I first noticed it, but discovered it is a factory number not a serial number. The one on the butt is stamped.

Very nice gun and wood box also. Real nice photo. I purchased a model 64 same as your 10 but stainless from Illinois police academy. They engraved it on the crane thank goodness it doesn't show. Real happy with it and what is the holster you're showing? I'd like to have a nice k frame 4 inch holster but not spend a fortune

mark6005,
It is a Hunter.
I picked it up out of a box of holsters a few years ago at a gun show.
Check ebay for "hunter leather holsters revolver" and something should turn up. Should not be expensive.

I used to work in a shop that had a dot matrix percussion marking machine. When I was caught up on work, I would go over and fill in on identifying parts. S&W's numbers look very close to what our machine made, except I would have sharpened the stylus and checked the bushings in the holder long before they started looking like some of the numbers on that model 10.

my ex Victoria Police 3" 10-5. I bobbed the hammer spur and added CT laser grips. It is by far my favorite revolver of all that I own.

So I take it that the Buds trade ins are a good deal. I've been pondering one for a while.

I was just doing an eBay search for "Jordan Holster" and there is a seller who bought a bunch of Don Hume holsters (new) before they went out of business. All are new (some seconds) for 4-6" K frames. Looked very good and seemed reasonable for the quality ($25 and up) Hope this helps!

I did buy two 4" awhile back! Then sold one to a friend. The double action trigger is among the best of a whole bunch of SWs I have. I should keep my eyes open for a 3"

In response to your question: I have bought four of the Model 10 police turn-in's through Buds in the past few years and haven't been disappointed on any of them.
The only "issue" is holster wear......no big deal... Buds get a shipment once or twice a year; almost all are 4 inch barrels. I did get lucky 3 years ago and got a 3" one. The price has been $299 including shipping...all you have extra is FFL on your end.
Some times Buds holds them for "members only" which may hit you up for an additional $25.
I'll probably get another next time around. I still have a bedroom without a Model 10.
