Default Model 610, but not the usual suspect....

I have been wanting a model 610 and have come across one that has been set up for competition. It has been modified with a ported barrel, trigger job and polish and a couple of other things done to it. I am not crazy about the mods but these are few and far between. It is a 6.5 inch barrel and I am tempted but not knowing who did the mods kind of puts me off. But then again I have not seen any come up for sale and I am a fan of the 10mm......thoughts and experiences with the 610 would be appreciated.

Do you happen to have a picture of this "Kevin Spacey" model? Is it a Performance Center? Picture would help for sure.

oh...in general the 610 is a dream. Buy the gun.

610s seem to command a premium now days. For me to consider a "custom firearm" I have to be able to live with the modifications. For me, it would depend on the price, and who did the work. If it was done at some shop you've never even heard of or can't research on the internet, I'd run away.

I would definitely not run away simply because I didn't know who did the work. It would most certainly depend on price of course, but I would like to think I can interview a used revolver. If the crafter that did the work is unknown, the modifications certainly won't "add" to it's value, but I would be wholly comfortable in deciding if the gun is worth owning.

Hands-on, of course... not via pictures on the computer.

I am a fan of most things 10MM. All of my 310/610 revolvers have had their chambers opened up so that they can fire 10MM Magnum in addition to 10MM Auto and 40 S&W

The 6 1/2" is a great revolver I really like mine for long range shooting

The 310 Night Guard is a fantastic carry piece. The weight of a K-frame but the versatility of the 10MM family of cartridges

Without seeing what the firearm in question looks like and without knowing how much the firearm in question is going to cost, there is no way I can possibly make a reasonable argument for or against buying it

I own several firearms that were customized prior to my acquiring them and I have no problem with that. I have also seen customized firearms that you could not pay me to own.

Who did the work is secondary to whether the firearm is appealing or not.

If you have come across so few, you could buy this one as long as it is even marginally appealing to you. Use it and enjoy it until you come across on that is in a configuration more to your liking. Then buy that one and sell off the one you have been using in the meantime

You could also purchase this one with the intent of returning it to original condition. This would be a lengthy and probably costly proposition, but it could be done.

Fetching pictures and have asked the seller who did the work. I don’t think it is factory work, more like aftermarket. I will do a bit more due diligence but will be prepared to keep looking. I have two G20s and a Delta Elite to scratch my 10 mm itch, but do want a 10mm wheel gun.

Here's my take. 610s are awesome revolvers stock or modified. Heck, I just bought another one today! My lust for them came after I was in a similar situation as you.

I had found this 610-2 four inch unfluted gun locally and after a little wheeling and dealing I was able to acquire it for a little over a grand. At first I was hesitant since it too, has had some work done to it (trigger/action work and a new front sight). When I inspected it in person it turned out to be in really nice mechanical and cosmetic condition. The work was claimed to of been done by Frank Glenn but there was no paperwork to confirm it, so I took a chance.

Not only did I get it way under value due to not having a box, not stock, non original rubber grips (that I replaced with Badgers) etc.. it's the nicest and best shooting post war N frame I own. I've had no issues with accuracy, light strikes, or timing.

Inspect the gun closely and if paperwork for the modifications can't be found then use that as negotiation to get a better price. If the seller is firm, I'd still roll the dice.
