I have a stainless steel .357 mag model 66-3 in near-mint condition with original packaging and paper, bought new in April, 1993. Four-inch barrel and no modifications. Does anyone know a good reputable dealer near eastern Pennsylvania for this beauty? I'm trying to get a good idea of it's value for sale.

You want to sell it to a dealer? If so, expect him to offer 50% of retail. As you described it's at least a $500 dollar gun, give or take.

Put some pics up and offer it for sale on the forum.

If you have all the papers, the box, and it is in nice shape you could get $500 a $550 for it, and then all you have to do is take it to your FFL, pay the FFL fees and shipping and send it the buyers FFL.

That takes like $50 off your $550, instead of maybe getting $325 from someone who will then turn around and sell it for $500 a $550.

Believe me, a nice 66 will get snapped up quickly.

I'd make you a good offer, but you'll get a few bucks more than my best offer.

IMO the previous two posts are a bit high on their estimates of what a dealer will offer, it's been my experience that dealers will typically offer 40% of the retail price and dicker up to 45-50% at the very best. However, they are in the ballpark on the retail value of your model 66, in my area these sell in the 500-600 dollar range with condition being a critical factor in the value. IMO if you post it for sale here at 550 dollars with some good clear pictures illustrating the condition and all the packaging that came with it you'll get some good offers within a week at most.

Gun dealers and Pawn Shops are in business to make money and pray on people who need or want to sell something. At best you will get 50% of what the gun is worth and a friend to friend or Gun Broker sale will get you a lot more.

If you want to get involved with a dealer, consign the gun, don't sell it directly to him. You'll get a lot more out of it. Your best option would be to sell it yourself (on this forum or a reputable web site) and transfer it to an FFL for the buyer. You pay the transfer fees on your end and the buyer pays the fees on his end. You can work out the payment of the shipping charges. I prefer to have an FFL transfer for me, creating a paper trail and relieving me of any problems with the transfer. Good luck.
