Model 19 with an unusual product code and serial number
Okay I am reaching out to you guys. Last weekend we picked up this little lady and I can't locate the product code or the serial number prefix in the catalog. I had to have her with a 0000 serial number but I was wondering if anyone else here may have one from this series and could give me little history.

Not much help, but the Spec.ord number gives you the date of manufacture. The first digit is the year and the last three are the date in Julian method. But you need to know the decade. With that serial number, I would expect that it would be the 199th day of 1983.

When S&W begins a new triple-alpha sequence (ACC in this case) they start counting at zero. Often, but not always. That label is indicative of early '80's (no bar code, box likely say's "Bango Punta" on the front flap). Ship date July 18, 1983. This is supported by other s/n's and ship dates I've seen. It's really nothing special.

I don't know if S&W was even using their (now) common 6-digit Product Code in 1983. If they did, a 2.5" M19 would of likely been 100702.

Thank you guys for your help. I know it is a regular model 19 but the acc prefix was not in the catalog so I was more curious if this came out of a run for an agency or something that didn't get in the catalog. I know that sometimes if an agency had a large enough order they got their own seriel numbers.

Thank you very much. I didn't know that about product codes. I now see the first year for product codes on the model 19 was 1984 so that explains this not having one. I always learn something new from you guys!

The other ACC s/n I have is a 3" M650 .22 Mag. That supports an assumption that that triple-alpha was not exclusively reserved for a LEO.

Thank you for sharing you experience with the prefix acc. I still love the serial number and the fact it is a snubbie!

It is pretty cool. I've only ever seen, maybe half a dozen, "0000" serial numbers. Though technically nothing special, they are unique, and I think most are locked up in the back of safes and not in general circulation.
