Default So......Who loves BIG BORE Snubbies?

I do!

And I'll start it off with a no dash model 657 in 41 Magnum.

It is one of my favorites. I looked for one of these for years before I found this one.

So......Who loves BIG BORE Snubbies?-smith011-jpg

I really like the calibers beginning with a 4 in the short barrel variety.....what have you guys got? If you have leather, show it too

Oh, Anyone can play...that is why I placed it in the lounge....show us you big bore snubbies!!

I'm trying in to like this.
3" N balance is weird for me.
44 special is the limit in a 3 inch snub for my old bones.
But, dang it looks good.

Yep - .44Spl. on the snubs.
I'll carry full .44Mag. loads in brown bear country but, it's no fun to "plink" with 'em.

I just have a couple, but like both a lot. First is a 629PC.

Here's the same one in a Simply Rugged pancake holster:

An earlier N-frame, 624 purchased circa 1985 with box, holster (never used), papers & tools:

Default 44 Magnum Mutants......

A couple o' fixed sight 44 Magnum's
A 3 inch

And, a 2 inch

A family of "misfits" but certainly not dysfunctional

Gotta luv 'em

629-4 .44 Mag Backpacker with original box

The uncommon 657-4 .41 Mag Lew Horton

And the one that never was...a square butt 657 .41 Mag. Probably my favorite.

I like them. My first was the Charter Arms 44 Special. Good concept, but cheaply done. My favorite is the S&W 325 Night Guard in 45 ACP.

Default Big Bore Snubbies

You can tell not many people like big bore snubbies by the number of posts in just a short period.

.

All of mine start with a "4" in the caliber too !

.

Night Guards: 396-357-329-325

.

M69 Combat Magnum

.

460XVR 3-1/2" PC

.

...but NOT this one!

Model 10 and model 60.jpg

Model 19-4 in 6 inch and 2 inch.jpg

66-1 W 2 .5.jpgI guess mine will not qualify as "big bore" but they sure are reliable and fun!

The Model 60 ( 38 cal ) has a 1 5/8" barrel and the Model 19 and Model 66 both are 357s with 2" barrels

Only one that might qualify as "loved":

24-3 ordered from Lew Horton's and carried just about every day for several years straight. Usually in a Rogers breakfront paddle holster (broke ~ three of 'em!). Every once in a while in a Jackass shoulder rig.

But conceptually my favorite is this Webley Bulldog .45:

Tiny for its bore size!

Sorry no pics as the best I can do is a model 19 & 36 in snubbies and I don't think my 8 3/8 inch model 29's qualify. I do like that model 610 snubbie and should add one. Now a 657 would be nice for evening wear.

The Model 27-2 may not technically be a "snubbie", since the barrel is 3.5". But it carries just as easily as the Model 24-3. Short enough!!

Big Bore Snubbies. N frames less than 4 inches ?

I remember a day when 3 inch Stainless Smiths circulated through the shows
for $500. or so.
Persons would much rather buy longer barreled guns.

Go figure.

Today, short barreled revolvers ( S.B.R.s) are all the rage.

I appear to have 3 original 625s in 45 Colt, 2 in 45 A.C.P.
3 that have been caliber converted and 1 that has been cut down.

9 in 45 Caliber in all.

Regards

Allen

Love the thread. So many nice pieces with HD pictures.

I'd love them to make a snub 500 again. I know about the ES, but that's unlikely to happen again. Something like the 460XVR PC chambered in 500 would force me to allocate funds immediately.

I've had a good many snubs in calibers starting with a four...I only have a couple now. One is a Lew Horton 624 and the other is a Rossi 720c. The Rossi is a medium frame, five shot, stainless revolver with fixed sights and DAO with bobbed hammer. It has been a very reliable revolver with a smooth and light trigger action. I am not usually enthusiastic about Taurus and Rossi guns but this particular revolver is as good as any S&W or Colt I have owned.

Wow, some of these snubs are beautiful. I feel like a red headed step child. I love the big bore snub but I carry a Charter Bulldog in 44 special and I reload for it. One day I would love to pick up a smith snub in 44 special. It makes me want one even more now. They are so beautiful!

Default Cut down Big Bores

Here are a few of my Big Bore snubbies that have been cut down by unknown gunsmiths over the years, except for the Jovino in the middle.
The bottom 2 are 45 Long Colt and the rest are 45 APC

Thanks for all the great pictures. Maybe I'll be shamed into learning photography.
Around 1986 I bought a Lew Horton 629 with what I recall as a 2 1/2 inch barrel. Six full house 240 grain shots convinced me to sell it at a loss. That was before my reloading days. Probably ear protection consisted of empty 38s stuck in my ears.
With age comes wisdom ( I hope) and my only big bore snubbie is a 629-8 with a 3 inch barrel and an unfluted cylinder. This gun shoots better groups for me than my mountain guns or most other 44s. Of course my loads are in the 44 special class.

Default I Do!

I like them, but only have a couple...

A ported 629:

A 625-11, one of 103:

Figured I'd throw in a Colt Sheriff's model in 44 Spl/44-40 caliber for a little something different.

Yep, I like 'em.

Model 624 .44 Special

I also have a 3" 24-3, but no picture of it by itself.

Some years ago I got tired of trying to find an affordable snubby .45 Colt so I made one.

There's a 44 Redhawk at my LGS for $840 something. I wouldn't even dream of buying it before shooting one.

If looks could kill
