I almost could not pass a pic of these awesome snubs without punching the " Like " button. They are all fantastic, however, the blued guns are very special indeed.
Ahhhhh what dreams are made of. I want one to replace my 19 snub as my EDC.... really.
My hat is off to all the owners of these fine weapons.

The ultra fine snubbies in this thread are never seen for sale in my area. You folks that are snatching these up are lucky! Truthfully, there are not many used older Smith's of any flavor to be found around here.

This thread inspired me to buy my first Lew Horton 24-3 back in 2014 when it was first started. glad to see it revised. I've been on the hunt for a 696 lately

There was an Ruger Alaskan that sat at the LGS for a long time. $600, I'm kicking myself I didn't jump on it.

Yes, they can be hard to find.
I finally found one on Gun Broker, in fact I have seen several on GB recently. I paid $409 and that's about what they are still asking for them.

In a previous post, I stated I had two snubs that begin with a "4", but I only posted photos of my Colt NS.
That was a while back, and now, since this thread is still around, I'll show off my other one.
This actually gets carried quite a bit, in a Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake. A friend of mine, who chops everything from guns to cars, had a gunsmith who specializes in target rifles trim this to 2.75". Then, he grew bored with it, and for a Ruger SP101 (that I was only into for $300!) and a hundred bucks it became mine. Definitely one of my better trades.
I like it because it's impervious to any weather I carry it in, it'll handle any load I decide to put through it, and it's big enough to handle anything I might encounter. The group photo is him with his fellow .44's, a 629-4 and a Contender.

Some of mine
Since I have no "big bore" snubbies (defined as bigger than .357") , I'll just share the snubbies I do have and carry. I used to have a variety of them to include Model 29 and 629 versions in 3", I never found them practical to carry. I use Remington 125 grain Golden Sabers in the L Comp, and carry it in a Sparks PMK. In the Model 27-2 I use American Eagle 158 grain JSP.
Model 27-2, 3.5", Spegel grips in Thad Rybka holster
Model 586+ L-Comp with Spegel grips. My favorite carry gun.

Nine 696s (eight of which were no-dash), nine 24-3s, a 3" m57, 3" m29, and a 3" Charter Arms Bulldog. I kind of like the big bore snubbies as well.

I guess I've taken a bit of a liking to them.
I've added 3 in the last year - but none of them are Smiths.

45 ACP's
Here is a pair of 45 ACP's
The blued gun is a 25-2. It was custom built by the Jovino gun shop in NYC.
The SS gun is a 625-2 with a 3" barrel. This is one fun gun to shoot!
A reminder to all our our posters here - please update your image links if photobucket has given you the boot
Thanks all for posting your Big Bore Snubbies......I think that I have some more to post here along the way

While certainly “not” a CC handgun, would love to have an X Frame 460 in 3.5” barrel. It would be a good companion to my 8 3/8” 460. It would be more practical for routine carry when traveling the two-tracks around the house! memtb

Yes indeed!
Here is a ad from Jovino's showing their conversions.
It is funny that they use the 'EFFECTOR' verbiage on these early guns, but they were not marked EFFECTOR until Jovino started leaving the front locking lug in place. To make matters even more muddy, I have a EFFECTOR model 58 that has not had the barrel cut at all....figure that one out

My snubbie. A 625-7 with Ahrend's grips, Wolff spring kit, orange front sight insert, and early style thumbpiece.

Charter Arms .41, .44, or .45. Best "bangs-for-the-buck" revolvers on the planet.

Do you have first hand experience with the 41 mag?
Thanks,
Paul

My newest friend
This is my newest S&W. A 29 that I'm still trying to identify. Paid too much, looks like carp, very tight and EXTRA smooth action. Don't care what it looks like, don't care that I overpaid. I wanted it, I love it, I, shoot it, don't have to treat it like a fragile baby and I scored 2 four inch, ss, Redhawk 45 colts with it.

I own the PitBull and Bulldog, but have no experience with MagPug ( .41).

Here's a 29-3 3" that I picked up the other day. Nice shooter, my new woods walking gun!

I have a couple of them. S&W 329 Nightguard in .44 Magnum, and a S&W 629 "Alaska" that came in a fancy box with a knife and firestarter and compass.
All these big bore snubbies all look real impressive, but I wonder how many folks have actually FIRED them? Especially with full power loads. A .44 magnum with a lightweight titanium frame, 2 inch barrel, and a full power load is downright BRUTAL. I fired my 329 Nightguard with full power loads and didn't even get passed 25 shots out of the box of 50. My hand was beet red and hurt like hades. Now I am sure there are guys with hands like a gorilla and can shoot full house magnum loads all day without blinking an eye. But I am betting they are few and far between.
Gun stores used to love it when Dirty Harry played on TV. The next day they would be swamped with orders for the Model 29 .44 magnum. A week after they sold those guns, they were all back in the display case because the owners found them too painful to shoot. They are NOT fun guns. Fun to look at...sure. Fun to shoot...nope.

Does a 625-3 with 3" barrel count as a big bore snubby?
