Default 41 mag model num?

my neighbor brought a revolver over a few years back, and I thought I remember it being a smith and Wesson 41 mag.
he just came by on his mower when I was out and I asked him about it. turns out it is a smith 41 mag.
he doesn't know the model number so im asking you guys if you would know. all I know is that he thinks he bought it in the 80's.
I would love to get ahold of that gun someday!
and know you cant just ask him to go and get it to look at it, he is a little different. but a great neighbor

If it is blued and has adjustable sights it is a M57. If it is stainless it is a M657. If it has fixed sights it is a M58.
The M57 and M58 are highly collectable.

That depends on many factors. Is it a Model 57 or a Model 58? What barrel length does it have? What stocks is it wearing? What condition is it in? Does it have the original box, tools, and documents?

Additionally if it is blue/black in color and light weight it could be a model 357.

Edit - Just reread the post, if I was purchased in the 80s that would rule out the model 357, they were not in production yet. First time I only notice he bought it a few years ago.

sawlog,
If your friend swings out the cylinder, the model number will be stamped on the part of the frame that is revealed.

Depending on model, configuration and condition this revolver could be worth anywhere from $100 - $1,200. If it is in decent condition, most likely it will fall into the $500-$700 area

If you post some nice digital pictures we can get a little closer in a value estimate.

These days any N-frame, that hasn't been beat to heck, under $600 is a good deal.
