Customized Grips Nickel 22-4
Decided to try getting some decent shots of the gun/grips. This thing is damn hard to photograph.
Anyway, I try:

For those that missed my other posts, the grips are a cheap set of Jay Scott oversized troopers in zebrawood. They were first fitted to the frame of the gun, then shortened and thinned, completely recontoured to a "combat grip" profile and finished in oil with a final layer of wax. They have the same width as the service grips they replace with more meat lengthwise. They now carry quite well, look worlds better than the gorilla size with lacquer finish, and feel and shoot better than ever.

Very nice! I have the same model, have been trying all kinds of grips. I finally found an old set of black buffalo horn Magna style I got many years ago from somewhere and think I will keep them.

The grip adapter with magna/service grips looks best, but I wanted to avoid any extra pieces that can come loose as this one is my high volume shooter as far as revolvers go. That and I like the old, non finger groove adapters over those I see being made now.
These started out as a hideous set of $35 stocks with a nice grain and I believe I've made the most of them.

This model is my favorite of all modern S&W's. They are as gorgeous as they are practical, about the same weight as a same length 686 SSR, and in my favorite caliber.
Those grips sound nice.

Yes you did! I've done the same thing with a lot of grips. I leave the older factory stocks alone but everything else is fair game. Like the stock grips on my then new 586 plus, the top horns were sharp on the sides and after a few shots the blood would run, tried smoothing them up but then got blisters. Well, I just sawed them off flush with the grip body, sanded them smooth to match the contour and called it good. Some day way down the road some collector will bemoan the bubba who did this vile thing!

Some of the best looking grips I've seen on a recent production gun, but there's just not enough meat there.

They were on my M21-4 and M24-5.
They both sit in a draw now, to hard shooting with them.....
