Default Current production grips?

Anyone know who manufactures the current factory synthetic grips that Smith is putting on their 629's?

I have a theory on S&W's rubber grips, based on nothing but my own WAG (Wild ***** Guess).

When Uncle Mike went our to the grip business they sold the machinery to S&W. S&W now makes their own in-house rubber grip on Uncle Mike's old machinery.

I say this primarily because S&W started using their own current style grip right about the time Uncle Mike quit the neoprene grip business. (A little less than 10 years ago, IINM). Why UM quit making grips I never understood. They were popular and they sold well. Many were factory standard on S&W revolvers. Maybe S&W made UM an offer they couldn't refuse.

That's my WAG theory.

Hogue is also still making neoprene grips for S&W. If you could post a picture of what you're looking at I could tell you who's grip it is.

Here are the ones I am asking about.

Product: Model 629

I have 629-6 that came with these grips and I like them a lot. I would love to find a set for my 686-5 Mountain. Gun.

That's S&W proprietary grip. They'll sell you one. I think they have a 800 number and a web site. Brownells and Midway might have them, too. That I'm not 100% sure on, but they have most S&W parts (when they can keep them in stock).

Pretty much all standard production revolvers have a round butt, these days. The M629 in the picture you linked to has what's called a round-to-square conversion grip. Those will only fit a gun with a round butt frame. So, you need to be sure that's what you have.
