Default 629-1 Insights ?????

I have a 29-2 four in. , that has been fired very little and I think is too nice for me to woods carry, so I think I will sell it soon as I want a shooter. I have a chance to buy (fair price) a nice 629-1 6 in. shooter, in good condition, low round count. I really like stainless for woods carry. Have no experience with 629s. Also plan to use it for deer hunting and carrying in bear country. Would appreciate input/thoughts/reviews from those who have experience with 629s. I did a search and couldn't find much. Thanks in advance

I have a 629-3 six in. and have killed several deer with it. I had two 629-2 revolvers back in the early 90s and they both would skip chambers or fail to rotate to the next round. S&W replaced both of these with my 629-3 that just came out with the new endurance package. Check for information on (endurance pkg.) and proceed from there. My 629-2 both had problems with factory rem 240 gr. and that was when they were brand new. I would try to get nothing before 629-3

If you are planing on shooting a lot of full-house loads, I would try to find a 629-2E or newer.

I've got 5 or 6 dash ones and like them a lot. Some of these guns have only recently been retired from steady use since the mid 80's. In my experience the pre endurance guns will need a tune and tighten somewhere around the 3000 round mark(locking bolt, spring, center pin and end shake adjustment). That is a lot of ammo in today's world, roughly $3000 for american name brand economy loads. The tune up cost was around $125 minus shipping the last time I sent one back to smith. If the gun passes a QC test and seems to be in good shape. I would buy and shoot it without reservation.
If I was looking for a high volume range toy. One that would make weekly trips to the range for load testing and practice. Then a newer gun would probably get the nod, the endurance package effectively doubles the life of the gun.
