New to forum and S&W
I have decided to shift my collection from Military surplus to Smith and Wesson revolvers. I have been collecting Mausers and other ww2 era rifles for years but decided I wanted to change it up. I just picked up my first 3 S&W revolvers. I got a 29-2 44 mag blued, 29-10 44 mag in nickel, and a Performance Center 25-11 45 LC. I know little about them but came across a 3 for one deal. both 44 mags came in wooden boxes and the 45 LC did not have a box. I have been an active member of gunboards and go by the same name over there. Just wanted to say hi and please let me know anything that would be useful to collecting S&W.
I try to collect only the best condition stuff I can find, usually NIB or slightly used. I feel they hold there value better. What are some S&W I should look for to add to the collection? What are the must haves for the collection?
Thanks in advance.
Nate

Howdy...
A Hound Dawg Howdy from SC. Welcome to the club. Revolvers are a whole new world.
Model 19s are in demand. The older 5 and 4 screw hand ejectors. The .357 Registered Magnum is great. I'm not a collector, I'm a shooter, but these are pretty common knowledge.

First welcome I'm from gunboards too. I was a c&r collector too. I got into the older s&w c&r revolvers first and seen the quality I was missing out on.
I have a mix of old and new just a few.
To me the older ones to look for are;
S&W k22 masterpiece revolver 22lr 6" barrel. Pre model number
S&W k38 combat masterpiece 38 special 4" barrel. Pre model number
S&W k38 masterpiece target 38 special 6" barrel. Pre model number
S&W 38/44 heavy duty 4" barrel pre 357mag & pre model number
S&W 38/44 outdoors man 6" barrel pre 357 & pre model number
There's a few. Bill
When my new grandson was born I got into the turn of the century 22's and the s&w k22 for him. The smoothness of the k22 made me want more s&w.
There's an awesome group of gurus here who are willing to help us. I ask a few dumb questions time to time and they never bit me yet.
But we have to thank them often for sharing there decades of knowledge that's all they ask in return. There is a lot of s&w history to learn here too.
I still like my military guns. But I thought there was no ending to them. I guess there wasn't as many of them as one would think. The availability of some of them is a tough find lately. I have a few.

Welcome! You will get a windfall of suggestions about collectable S&W revolvers...you have an excellent start with that 29-2 as it has the "right stuff" for even the most finicky collectors. Pre-lock, pinned and recessed (P&R), way before MIM parts, magnum cartridge in an iconic model in the box.
Anything 3" K frame...10,13,19,64,65,66, ect. is a good place to start. The 4" is popular for the 19 and 66 as well with the P&R models dominating in that category. Huge following for the N frames as well (like your 29) but I run with K and L frames so I'll let the experts chime in on those.
Smith has made so much over years it's really a matter what a person likes...lots to choose from. We really like pictures so don't be shy...some claim no joy without a pic!
Here's a couple...

Welcome to the forum!
I'd suggest looking at K-frames, like a 19.

First off welcome from Va. The members of this site are great. I will tell you that these revolvers are addictive you can never have enough be careful cleaning that nickel. Cleaners like hoppes can damage them. But I think CLP is ok to use. I think you want to make sure your cleaner doesn't have ammonia in it, but don't quote me on that. One of the more knowledgable members will chime in and let you know. But as for the 29-2 that's a terrible revolver, I will take pity on you and trade you a taurus 44 mag......just kidding you have a fine start to a never ending selection of fine firearms to collect.

Welcome.
Similar to military surplus you'll find a wide variety of choices collecting S&W's even if you limit yourself to revolvers. Variety is the spice of life.
You asked about what to collect? There's too many choices to provide a brief list. It all depends on what you decide you like. If you run across a Registered Magnum in .22 caliber you might take a second look.
