Default Anybody using the Merit Optical thing?

Have you used one for handgun target shooting?

Can somebody make up one of these on their own?

Thanks.

I have used one and they work well if you carefully place it on your safety glasses in front of your eye.

The only downside to using one of these is if the targets are in shade - it makes it harder to see.

Yes you can easily make one by using a piece of black tape or playing card with a hole in it. You will have to experiment to find the correct hole size.

I've used one for quite some time. Works well, but I wish it had a greater range of adjustment.

There are several devices that put an adjustable pin-hole over your master eye to increase the depth of field and attempt to get both front and rear sight in focus. They all work to some degree, and you must adapt to them. They are only good for one handed bullseye type shooting as the angle of your head must remain the same for all shooting. It wouldn't work for any action shooting.

I have used one for both Bullseye and Metallic Silhouette (50, 100, 150, and 200 yard targets).

I wear lineless bifocals and when I find the 'sweet spot' on the lens, the bullseye and both sights are clearly visible. I just got a new pair of single vision shooting glasses that give a perfect sight picture and blurred bullseye. The Merit device improves the bullseye clarity, but fuzziness is still there.

I have not shot a silhouette in about 8 years. In that time my eyes have changed, including the start of cataracts.

I've been wearing a Merit Optical Attachment since the mid 80's and couldn't do without it. I did a little adjusting to it and can get the front and rear sights and the target to all be in perfect focus. I think a lot of what people think of the Merit attachment depends on what kind of glasses they wear. I have recommended the Merit attachment to many gents and have told them if they didn't like it I would buy it from them. I have yet to have anyone who purchased one to take me up on the offer.

Use electrician's tape. Experiment with position on your glasses and hole size. Then decide if you want or need the commercial version. I have used this for iron sight rifle shooting also.

I like mine, but rarely go through the effort to use it. It definitely tightens my groups, but it takes me about 15 minutes to get it set up. You may be able to leave it in place long term, I haven't tried that.
