Very nice! Have you checked the throat dimension; .452 or .454? I have three about the same age as yours (I think). The two 4 inch guns have .454 (or larger; a .452 bullet falls through the throat) but the six inch is .452. The two 4 inch guns are a little earlier (N800,000 range) and the six inch is N900000 range. If your SN is close I'd appreciate knowing if you have the oversize (.454 or larger) or .452.
Thanks.

That is a beautiful gun. I have a late -5 model (AWF prefix) in blue with the long barrel. It's a real tack driver with its .452" throats. Lots of fun to shoot and a real head-turner when everyone else is shooting semi-autos. 45 Colt barks with real authority.

There is a Hornady XTP 300 grain, .452, it has play. What would you say?

Will that bullet drop through one of the cylinder holes? If so, probably .454; if not, probably .452. What is your SN range?
Thanks.

Has SN N844462, and yes the bullet doesn't hardly touch through the cylinder.

Thanks, not sure if I gave up to much for it but they don't make them any more.
Authority is right, shot one years ago.

Hi there, nice snag! It would go well with my nickeled six inch. One of my N prefix 25-5's has the over size throats and shoots quite well with my cast .454" sized bullets. If you do not reload the Remington and Winchester 250gr LRN factory ammo have nice soft .455" diameter bullets that work quite well in all revolvers regardless of cylinder throat diameter. Sometimes revolvers with oversize cylinder throats will shoot well with .452" diameter bullets, ya never know till you shoot em. Enjoy that one.

That is a fine package. Presentation case and all. Congrats.
We have observed some model 25s in the N800000 range that have
the .452 chamber throats.
It seems that by N939+++ that the chamber throats were all
properly sized. Mine dates to 1985.
I hope you don't become addicted as I did. I don't need the competition.
Regards,
Allen Frame

Thanks for that clarification. Maybe someone else knows for sure, but I'm thinking that S&W went to the .452 throat around SN 900000. Both of my 4 inch guns with .454 are a little lower SN than yours and my 6 inch with .452 is 903000 range. As noted in other posts, it is no big deal if you reload as cast .454 bullets are available and some of the LRN factory loads are larger than .452. Nice to know what to expect though. Thanks again for your update.

Hand polish some Flitz on that gun and use a microfiber cloth. Had a nickel gun and it had scratches like yours and then I polished it with Flitz and it made a world of a difference.

Congrats, very, very nice! I too like nickle and other shiny metal . You may consider Happich Semichrome and soft flannel to brighten and color the nickle.
