RANGE REPORT AT BOTTOM OF PAGE

I swore the 386PD was my last purchase for a while, but my impulses got the best of me...

I have always lusted after the 586 Comp-L. I had been watching a like new, gently used one for the last week on Gunbroker. From the description:

"Action has been "Carmonized" by Mike Carmoney. Safety lock has been disabled, all parts are included. Hammer been bobbed. All paperwork, safety lock, fired case, S&W PC aluminum case and 30 moon clips included. Less than 50 rounds fired."

I decided to work some magic accounting through my business and I will have it in my hot little hands next week. This is really the LAST ONE FOR A WHILE! Let you know how it shoots when I get it.

Very nice!

That one sure is a looker. I'm guessing Ahrends will be getting another order from you soon.

Actually I do like my Altamonts as well. I think I am going to keep it as is. I like the looks and feel of the compact altamont grips on an L frame. I am hoping the Comp will make up for my dangling pinky

Beautiful Gun, Ive had the urge to get one every once in a while, but it always passes. As for the grips, they look great. I bought a couple of sets of them on gunbroker a few years ago. One set went in my 19 K-comp and the other on my 2.5" 686.

I cant wait to see what you get next! I think its time for you to get back on gunbroker and continue "browsing". Im sure you can resist temptation.

I have at least a dozen revolvers on my Watch List. My new mantra...must not buy...must not buy...must not buy...

Nice gun, congrats. You'll have to update us with a Range report after you shoot it. One day, I hope to pickup a pre-lock version of the L-Comp.

Congratulations

The L-comp is one of my favorite snubbies. I have had mine for 12 or 14 years now. I would not part with it even for a big pile of money

I don't see myself buying any revolvers with longer than 3" barrels. I carry all the guns I buy. It is really tough to carry anything longer. If I can't carry it, I'm probably not going to buy it. Maybe 4", but that's it. My rifles are a different story

+1 To all above.

It sure would be interesting to rummage around in your safe. Since that is not likely to happen I'll ask, have you created a photo album?

I have posted lots of pics here in various posts, but I don't have an online public album. I have only recently gotten into revolvers. Historically I am much more of a rifle guy, mostly tactical stuff. SBRs, suppressors and the such. Love my ARs, especially my 300BLK.

I was watching a 325sc that was 1 of 300 & it went for $1032. It seems the scandium guns go for less than the steel ones do as far as limited production ones.

Here is the email I wrote to the guy I bought the gun from:

"I really don't know what to say. I have never pulled a trigger like that on a revolver before and did not know such a thing was possible. All I can say is wow. I am really speechless.

I fired a 100 rounds through it today. 38s and 357s, lots of different brands, Gold Dots, Buffalo Bore, American eagle, Georgia Arms. All Flawless and accurate. A pic of the last 4 cylinders I shot are attached. Once I get used to it, it will get a lot tighter."

The trigger/action was done by a guy named Mike Carmoney who seems to be a lawyer, shooter, and gunsmith. My research says when he does a trigger/action job it is called "Carmonized". People seem to rave about his work and it is no joke. The guy is a genius.

The Double Action Pull is maybe 5 to 6 pounds. It is smooth as a knife through soft butter. Before you know it, the trigger breaks and the round goes off. It lets off so soft it is incredible.

This is my new carry gun. I can't imagine ever wanting to shoot or carry anything else.

I wish I could let all of you handle this thing so you can understand why I am so floored by this gun and trigger/action.

I have several ported guns and I have always really liked them and noticed the difference in recoil. It is not dark enough where I shoot for the blast to be too noticeable. My carry load is low flash so I suspect if there is an issue, it will help considerably. Plus the barrel is 3" on this one which also helps burn up some more of the powder compared to a 2" ported barrel.

Congrats, sounds like you're very happy with it. I was a little worried when I saw the first set of pictures you posted, as I've never seen that much material removed during a hammer bob - I've heard others speak of light primer strikes after a hammer bob, due to the lighter weight striking the firing pin. Glad that is not the case on your new L-Comp. Sounds like a keeper.

Have you tried it with various makes of ammo? I'd worry about reliability what with the hammer bobbed to the extent it is.

I was skeptical at first with bobbed hammer & trigger job especially due to your recent BB ammo problems with the gun that also had a homemade trigger job but glad to hear your new L Comp is working out.

Slipped out of the office again today and put a few cylinders through several revolvers.

My second time shooting the L-Comp.

I'm starting to get used to the incredible trigger. This is just a wonderful gun. Definitely the finest of my dozen S&W wheel guns. Next time out I am going to devote a full session to it and run a couple of hundred of rounds through it.

The last 6 rounds of Georgia Arms .38spl 158gr Semi Wadcutters I had with me, fired DA at 25 feet:

I also must say, for the money the Georgia Arms ammo is really nice. I get 500 rounds of plated .38spl 158gr Semi-Wadcutters loosely packed in a green military ammo can for $163 delivered. It is reloaded ammo, but top notch stuff. 800fps. They offer other options in .38 as low as $148 for 500 rds delivered

The best all around carry revolver money can buy. Performance Center action, narrow profile, IWB compatible, 7-Shot, moon clips, can handle hot loads with ease. Oh yeah, very nice looking.
