Sent a 442 to Smith after repeated light primer strikes and I'm trying to make sense out of the work order. Where it says Performed Service it reads:

Evaluate/Repair
replace firing pin repair yoke

Does anyone know what the issue was with the firing pins in this particular model? Also, I've heard of adjusting the yoke for a tighter fit - how does one "repair" a yoke. Pardon my obvious ignorance.

I'm attempting to ascertain what the fix was specifically so that I'm in-the-know, as right now, I'm not entirely sure what Smith did other than replacing the firing pin. With some help from you more experienced owners I hope to answer some lingering questions like: is this a common repair, can I be confident that this is the right fix, etc. So far so good in terms of function, put 40 rounds through it - no issues.

Concerning the yoke, probably an alignment issue, or end shake perhaps.
Give them a call, they can fill in the blanks.

Could of been a headspace problem. That would explain the light strikes.

Thank you. Smith only told me exactly what the work order indicated, they replaced the firing pin and repaired the yoke.

That's as much or more detailed information as I usually get. I had one new revolver that was misfiring and was way out of spec on B/C gap, headspace, and general roughness in the hand/star operation. I sent my detailed measurements and observations with the gun for warranty repair.
Got back "adjusted to specification" and a gun that functioned perfectly. My detailed re-measure showed an ideal B/C of .004, headspace correct, and a smooth hand/star function. I suspect they reworked the parts, but didn't actually have to replace any of them.

Bottom line: what do I care exactly how they did it? It works beautifully and I didn't pay a dime for getting my revolver blueprinted.
