625-6 Value??

What is a fair price to ask for a excellent 625-6?

I am not an authority on the price of a 625-6 but I believe that somewhere around $800-$900 would be a fair price. I have a number of Smiths and my 625-6 (5") and my 625-8 JM Special are my two favorite revolvers of all time.

Everyone of those I have seen have the correct cylinder throat dimensions and are extremely accurate with proper cast bullet loads (well under 1" at 25 yards). These are some of the best revolvers Smith has produced.

I just bought an identical 625-6 without the extras...just the gun and box, for ~$765.

It's interesting to note this gun was made in May of 2001 during the brief time frame when S&W decided to inscribe the s/n on the frame below the cylinder window on certain models. It will likely NOT have a s/n on the bottom of the grip frame, which was the traditional s/n location for S&W's since time immemorial. In 2002 S&W abandoned this practice and went back to the old way of inscribing the s/n on the bottom of the grip frame.

This was one of the last N-frames to be built without the lock. By the mid 2002 they all had it. I'll agree with Dale and say $800 to $900 retail.

Thankfully my 625-6 has the serial number in the traditional location.

Does anyone have a 629 in 5, 6 or 6.5" pre-lock, similar condition they would be willing to trade?

I had a 625-6 Lew Horton that was easily the best built revolver I've ever been around. It was stolen in 2011 in a burglary, and I am pretty certain I'll never see it again.

I found my 625-8 PC with a J-point with the aluminum PC case and original rear sight for 750 at a LPS. Jumped on that one quick! Sometimes pawn shop have treasures.
