Great gun
I just purchased a S&W Model 327 TRR8...very nice weapon. A friend has an R8, and is for all practical purposes, the same gun. I used to carry a Smith model 27 on duty many years ago, and it was the best gun I had during my tenure as a State Trooper in FL. I carried many revolvers and semi-auto's during the time I served, but remember the model 27 the most. I can't wait to get to the range with my new (used) TRR8. Got a really good deal at a local gun shop. I have an old Victory model .38 special Smith that was my grandfather's, built in 1942. Also a great gun, and still shoots great.

I bought the TRR8 at a reduced cost, but it didn't come with any extras. I called S&W and ordered all the items that originally came with the weapon, including the container box, top & bottom rails, lock, moon clips, etc., which added a little more cost to the original price...well worth it however.

I love the fit and finish the materials and workmanship of a fine revolver. Therefore, I have many beautiful examples of S&W products. I also have some revolvers made by Rossi, Taurus, and Charter. Mine work just fine, they are just closer to the tool end of the spectrum than the industrial art side.
But if it is going to be used hard, or kept in less than ideal storage, the tool might be more appropriate. If it is a SD weapon and money is an issue, you can buy lots of ammo with the difference. And if money was an issue, and my SO was interested in shooting with me, I would rather have two lesser pieces than one work of art.

I am "CHEAP" but would buy the Smith. If I spent the lesser amount on the Taurus, would end up selling it eventually, and losing more money. Don't own any non Smith revolvers. Bob
