Box Label Question-Factory Engraved
I've been looking at some S&W's for awhile that are described as factory engraved but mostly do not have a factory letter as proof. Do any of you feel that box labels can be an indication of authenticity ? ( Discounting obvious fake labels if that's possible.) For example, this box label says Class A but it also has R026 listed under special features.
I'm curious if anyone knows what that means ?
Thanks
Steve

RO26 is not listed under "Features" in the SCSW, and I can find no S&W Engravers with the initials RO (that was a long shot). What I did find is the following (from the SCSW):
"Factory engraving will always enhance the value of the gun. To be worth full value, a factory engraved gun should be confirmed by a factory letter."
The letter plus the box should make a nice package for you.
Adios,
Pizza Bob

FWIW, I have a number of factory engraved pieces in the appx. era of your 66 in their original box's, To include a couple of Model 66's. My boxes all are marked similar to yours, with the level of engraving, an a sequence of letter and numbers such as the one you show. All the letter/number sequence's are different. I Don't really know what they stand for, but they look like yours.

Thank you rusty for the reply,
That is the type of information I was seeking from someone who maybe has some of the similar labels. I intend to letter it also but I was confused by these markings. SCSW seems to cover older engraving.

vrichard, thank you so much for the label picture. And BTW, that is one stunning model 66. I would be proud to have one like it.
