Default The Delta Ergo grip for j-frames -- not feelin' it

On impulse recently, and despite the weird look of the thing, I ordered a Delta Ergo grip to try out on my 351PD, which is my EDC. Bud's had one for about $14 plus about $6 shipping, so I figured it was worth a try.

Came in yesterday, and I promptly removed my Crimson Trace grips and installed the Ergo. Easy as pie. It's every bit as ugly in person as in the photos, but I have to say that the black-on-black look on the 351 was kinda cool. Plus, as another poster has mentioned before, it does make your revolver look like something Batman would carry.

Well, I haven't had a chance to get it to the range yet, so the final decision isn't made, but I have to say that I'm not feelin' it with this Ergo grip. Maybe it's something you have to get used to, and I get that, but personally I don't think it's any more comfortable or points any more naturally than the Crimson Trace grips (which, by the way, came on the gun when I bought it and were not something I likely would have added on my own, but I like it). Plus, for some reason, I had a bit harder time drawing from my front-pocket hoster with the Ergo than with the CTs. (I had expected it to draw more easily, so I was surprised by this.)

When I get to the range, I'll update this post, but in the meantime, first impression on the Delta Ergo is "move on, nothing to see here."

You're invited to chime in on your own experiences with the Ergo, if you like. (Erich, I already know you like yours. You're one of the reasons I decided to try it, you wampus cat!)

Tried 'em on my wife's Model 60. We both found the angle to be very awkward.

Dadadadada...Batman! Now you need to fill in the markings on your 351PD with yellow crayon.

Looking forward to hear what you think after shooting with them on. I've thought about getting some for my 642 but I'm satisfied with the three that I rotate based on what I'm doing. (Compac's for when concealment isn't top priority, UM boot grips when I need the upmost in concealment and the Badgers boot grips for everything else.) The Delta grips angle is another issue since the others I have point well for me already I don't want to "retrain", but we'll see I might get myself some as a Christmas present.

They conceal great. The tapered end doesn't print.

I have zero experience or knowledge about that grip.

That said, I don't think I could carry something looks like that.

It only works because it's rubber--that grip shape without traction will squirt out of the hand.

A fellow at my club had one that I could try, and I wrapped my hand around it. It did not point naturally or feel "like a gun." I didn't like it.

I like mine. I don't much care about the looks of a pocket gun, so that doesn't count. They are comfortable to hold, point naturally (for me), and do make the recoil less unpleasant.

Others no doubt have different opinions, that's why there is more than one design out there.

It doesn't and I practice that. I expect that few people will be peering into my pocket to see what the grips look like. If I have to draw it, I think the grip will be the last thing people will be interested in.

My set of Delta Ergos came today. They are indeed breath-taking ugly. All I care about is what works and what doesn't. And on the draw it feels as weird as it looks. Fast drawing will take some retraining. I've been practicing with snap caps for about an hour to get my brain and hand-position in sync. But once you get on target (in this case a picture on the far wall) the gun seems to point more "naturally" and the big plus for me is that your middle finger knuckle is no longer in harm's way. Will shoot it soon.

Anything that features enhanced ergonomics will take some getting used to. I think the Ergo grip will be more hit-and-miss than one-size-fits-all, depending upon a person's hand. Personally speaking, I'll let Batman keep his grip and leave me to my Hogues and Pachs.

I had a set on my 30-1. used them for about a month and I found them hard to get used to, especially in the "feel for the handle from cover" dept. and did not find any help in the "pointability" dept. I also thought that, for me, I was aiming high with the Delta grips. I finally replaced them with a set of Hogue Bantam grips in cocobolo. I found them better pointing and far better looking. People are different and hands are different, for $ 20.00 they are worth a try.

Know what you mean, but to be honest, after awhile they start to look to me like they belong. YMMV.

It's an excellent point others have made, though, that looks for a concealed-carry piece are really irrelevant, and what works best is what you should go with. If the Ergo fits your hand, by all means go for it.

OK got a pair of the Delta Ergo grips for the J Frame. Seems like the rubber is too sticky for CC and the shirt sticks too much. Others have this problem or did I get a pair from a bad batch of rubber? Appreciate any and all replies.

I've used the same Pachmayr Compacs for about sixteen years on a pocket-carried J. I had no problem with them sticking to fabric on the draw when they were new, and certainly don't all these years later. Those Ergos look sticky to me, as well as something my elderly, buggered-up hands would have trouble gripping. Quite apart from the ugly factor, they just don't look like something I'd swap the Pachmayrs for.
