RANGE REPORT ADDED: My 686 Plus 3" Showed Up Today
Just came in today. Brand New In The Box. This was the gun my friend owed me from a trade that I discussed in another post where you guys helped me choose what to get.
I put the Altamonts from the 686 Talo Deluxe 3" on this one.
Unfortunately, the timing is slightly off on two of the chambers. This is the third new 7 shot 357 I have purchased in the last 6 months that the timing has been off. I will have my local smith fix it when he does the trigger. The trigger is super stiff. One of the worst S&W triggers I have ever felt on a L Frame.
I will let you know how she shoots.

Jim, lmfao....... Harrish I would not be happy at all, call Smith and tell them to fix it and add an action job for the trouble, worth a shot at least.

I'm starting to wonder why S&W can't get them right, before they leave the the factory.
That said, it is a good looking S&W.

Sorry to hear the timing is off. As the Bee Gees would say: "Its a tragedy". Perhaps not a Greek tragedy of epic proportion, but disappointing nonetheless. Hope you get it fixed and then have fun with it.

Just got my NIB 686 Plus Pro back from the mothership yesterday. New out of the box they had to replace the barrel lining and firing pin. *** S&W?!
Heading out in an hour to test it for the first time. I'll give a report. UGH! Feel your pain. +1 on sending it to S&W btw.

RANGE REPORT
I took the 3" 686 out to the range for the first time today. Put 75 rounds of Georgia Arms 158 gr 38spl through it.
Despite having the absolute worst trigger I have ever pulled on a factory new L Frame, I managed to wring out some decent groups. The DA trigger pull is at least 15 pounds, probably closer to 17. While not as bad as some J Frame triggers I have pulled, it is definitely the worst K/L frame trigger I have ever felt.
This is really a very nice gun. It balances and handles perfectly, slightly better than my 2.5" PC. It is also very aesthetically pleasing to look at. I always think the 3 inch guns look just right.
All groups were fired at 25 feet Double Action. Here is an example of the typical groups I was getting today.
I am having the trigger/action done this week. I'm sure that will improve things significantly, and help tighten up my groups a bit. If a gun ever needed a trigger job, this one is it.

If the trigger as as bad as you say, that is some pretty good shooting.

Oh it is, and then some. Really pretty shocking how bad it is. Even the guy who did the transfer was pretty horrified. His comment was basically triggers on S&W revolvers have become less and less impressive over the last few years to the point where they are nothing special. But he felt the trigger on my 686 3" was probably the worst he has ever seen on a K/L Frame. Trigger job will be done next week for sure.
There are plenty of revolvers I have done trigger jobs on that didn't NEED it...I just wanted a nice light and smooth action. This gun NEEDS it.
