My edition of SCS&W only reports ser. #'s with AFN00xx (1985) for .38 cal M649's.
Any consensus on manufacture/production date time frame on a Model 649 .38 cal with s/n ALB76xx ?

Sounds right, somewhere between these two cited prefix's dates:

Nov. 1984 AEV -AFJ
Jan. 1985 AHA 0667
